Napoleon's Marshal Kellerman letter & Saint Helena Medal

SWORD & SABER is located just outside Gettysburg at the historic Shaeffer Farm, originally known as Wolf's Walk, from an original William Penn Land Grant. The house was built in 1780, and was at first a Tavern, under the sign of 'George Washington'. Colonial Troops drilled on the green in front of the house. Just before the Battle of Gettysburg, Joshua Chamberlain's 20th Maine marched past the house, up the Baltimore Pike and into legend. The field to the rear of the property was used as a Prisoner of War camp for captured Rebels, and the house was designated a Union Field Hospital. After his wounding in the fighting at the Peach Orchard, New York General Daniel Sickles was carried to the house for the amputation of his leg. The house was used for other casualties as well, and holes were drilled in the floors to facilitate the draining of spilled blood. The holes and bloodstains are visible to this day.
