"As long as there is such a thing as beauty in the world, it will remain for human hands to catch it and reveal it by the brush, the pen, the chisel and the needle."
Florence Yoder Wilson - August 1929 Needlecraft Magazine
Finest Quality Vintage & Antique Linens
We buy ONLY the FINEST Quality, so we SELL only the Finest Quality!
We sell only QUALITY items that we would display in our own home or proudly give as a gift. We specialize in the not-so-common, unusual and elegant pieces and we always have a nice selection to choose from. The majority of our linens are pre-1940's, with many 1920's and turn of the century pieces. Personal favorites are Victorian Whitework, Madeira Linens, especially the early Madeira cutwork, monogrammed antique towels, antique English & Irish handwork and quality Irish Linen, so we visit the best auctions and estate sales to find these items for you (and us, too). The majority of our linens are available for Instant Purchase!
All of our linens are guaranteed to be as described.
What you see, and what we say, is what you'll get. Imagine that! We take the extra time and expense to show many pictures and describe and show every flaw, no matter how minor, so that you're sure our "minor" and your minor mean the same thing. All items arrive wrapped in Acid Free Tissue Paper for protection and preservation in future storage.
Please Note that we now sell our Acid Free Tissue Paper under our other seller name - AcidFreeTissuePaper
Our linens will arrive freshly hand laundered and pressed as laundering is the ONLY way to detect even the most minor problem or flaw! The exception may be items that have the original labels intact or items that require professional care, and that will always be noted in the listing.
We treat each piece as the heirloom that it is.
We hand wash in a special antique linen wash made especially for gentleness and to help preserve the vintage fibers. Everything is air dried and freshly pressed, as that is when we usually discover any imperfections. We NEVER use harsh chemicals, detergents, absolutely NO chlorine bleach products ever, bleach pens, rust remover or anything else that could harm the delicate vintage fibers! We NEVER send anything to the dry cleaners, as the harsh chemicals they use today were NOT meant for the linens of yesterday, and they can cause weakening of the fibers.
Smoke FREE & Pet FREE, too!
We charge only ACTUAL SHIPPING costs. We do NOT have a handling charge!

Recommended Books
I have acquired many, many collector books on vintage and antique linens, (and there are many good ones out there) but two of my absolute favorites that I would recommend as a must for general reference are Antique Linens from the Kitchen to the Boudoir and Vintage White Linens A To Z, both by Marsha Manchester. I love the large variety of linens, the many beautiful pictures and especially the alphabetical set-up for easy reference. These are both great books for the new or seasoned collector.
A wonderful book on Madiera linens is The Embroidery of Madeira by Carolyn Walker and Kathy Holman. It's out of print, but it occasionally is found on Ebay, sometimes at very high prices. Your local library may also be able to locate a copy for you.

What ~ Where is Madeira ~ Marghab ??
Madeira is a Portuguese Island southwest of mainland Portugal.
Since the 1850’s, the hand embroidery of Madeira has been considered to be the finest in the world. Using only the finest linen, organdy or bastiste, these highly skilled embroidery workers have created textile masterpieces, incorporating skilled handwork such as Richelieu cutwork, Broderie Anglaise eyelet, and heavy padded satin stitches into their work. Some large tablecloths took months and even years to finish. Madeira linens have graced the tables and homes of Royalty and the Rich and Famous for over 100 years.
Authentic Madeira linens are highly collectible and will only increase in value as the earlier pieces get more and more scarce. When you consider the skill, time, quality and timeless designs that went into each piece, I'm sure you'll agree that they are one of the biggest bargains in the collectibles market today.
Much to the frustration of Madeira collectors, some books on collecting vintage & antique linens identify Madeira as a style of embroidery, rather than as the actual Madeira-made product. This can be confusing to both the seller and the buyer, as there is a big difference in the quality of the handwork and the materials used. In addition, there are many inferior copycat Madeira style linens that were produced in the orient that are of a much lesser quality. I even have a set of pillowcases with Made in China labels stating Madeira embroidery. VERY confusing if you're a new collector!
One suggestion if you're a new Madeira collector is to buy items with the original Madeira labels. Not only is this the great start of a beautiful new collection, but this will help you identify the style and incredible quality of the skilled embroidery and cutwork. You can find many Madeira linen cocktail napkins, hankies and guest towels selling on EBay that still have the original labels, and the prices are very reasonable. We usually have a nice selection of these items available in our Ebay store.
To be sure you’re getting true Madeira handwork, purchase your Madeira linens from a knowledgeable and reputable seller. There are many on EBay and I would be happy to recommend other reputable sellers.
Marghab, the "Tiffany" of fine linens, used the most skilled Madeira embroideresses and highest quality materials to create the finest hand embroidered linens in the world. They were sold exclusively in a handful of Marghab salons across the country. In business from 1934-1984, they created approx 300 exclusive patterns, all of which are works of art. Some patterns, such as the Rose Tree, were copied by other Madeira or Chinese firms. Marghab embroideresses were paid by the stitch! One napkin alone in Marghab's Vineyard pattern took 75,000 stitches and one month to complete! Some of their patterns are on display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Marghab linens are identified by PATTERN, so purchase only guaranteed patterns. Some of the more common Marghab patterns, such as the Rose Tree, Jacaranda Tree, Knight, and others, were copied by other Madeira or Chinese firms. Marghab linens command high prices, so before investing ask if the pattern has been identified and authenticated by the Marghab museum.
Our Madeira and Marghab linens are GUARANTEED to be Authentic, so purchase with confidence!
