Welcome to the World of Inside Painting

 Explore with me the facinating world of Chinese Miniature Art through the artists of the Xisan Academy of Inside Painting. This art form, called 'Reverse Painting', started in China about 200 years ago. In my pictures you see the first in a set of 12 bottles depicting the 'Journey to the West' or the 'Monkey King Story'. We, David & Jill Osborne, at the Snuff Bottle Club, are greatly honored to be the exclusive distributors for this fine Academy in the USA and Canada.

Learn all about Chinese Symbolism

 Little original paintings take you into another dimension, the dimension of Chinese Symbolism. This bottle, for example, shows the Monkey King being born out of a rock. The remaining 11 bottles in the set follow the Monkey King, the Monk and all their friends through many adventures in the search to find the Buddhist Scriptures. The original journey took place about 600 AD but the story in these bottles come from the famous novel 'Journey to the West' written about 1000 years later.
