Who is American Artist Tasha Kotara?



A self taught artist American born in Chicago, IL residing in San AntonioTexas. I come from a line of artists via my father’s side of the family, (painters and sketchers mostly) my maiden name is Spurlock. Something people usually find interesting about me is that I write with both my left and right hands. When I paint, I typically work on several pieces simultaneously and I love to work outdoors. I am often inspired by the natural palettes found in nature and the color schemes used in modern interior design. I enjoy being around living things, and people and I easily connect with and draw from the energy of others. Painting outdoors gives me an easy and spacious workspace and, allows me to tune into my work. Throughout the day there is a constant change in light that allows me to see and create my work in many different aspects giving my paintings an authentic quality and the overall advantage of being able to display well in any space and under any type of lighting. I have developed a series of painting techniques using painting tools and some non-typical items that assist me in blending, layering, and texturing the paint to achieve my unique style. I also love mixing colors and mediums to add texture, shine and depth. My acrylic paintings have a oil painted look to them. As many art lovers know this look is very difficult to achieve when working with acrylic paint because once the paint has dried it cannot be reworked or further blended like oil based paint can. Crafting my own techniques is not only fun and explorative it is a creative learning process for me in which I make mistakes, discoveries and unexpected surprises. Even when I’m using the same technique things come out differently. Many of my best pieces have been produced while trying to fix a mistake I made. I believe that cracks, peels, drips and runs are what gives a painting character and brings it to life. They also guarantee that each and every painting I create is undeniably authentic and unique in some way. Sometimes when I am unsatisfied with a painting I will often create a new and better one on top of the old one. I interpret my paintings once I have decided they look finished. I then name them based on what I believe they resemble or communicate to me. I have sold my paintings all over the United States and even in Canada. You can find my paintings displayed anywhere from homes and restaurants to doctor’s offices and other commercial spaces. You will recognize my paintings by the unique metallic silver signature. I sometimes sign more than one area of the painting as well. Keep an eye out for my art wherever you go especially online..
