Songthief Lumpy

I've Recorded Another New Album!
Craig and Heather
Jazz Vocal Standards, Archtop Jazz Guitar

Album!
That's what we used to call a collection of recorded songs
back in the 60's and 70's before there were CD's.
Even before there were cassettes!

Lots of people have asked me
"What's the process like to record a CD?"
It's a TON of work, for one thing. What I normally do is spend
several hours a day in the studio just recording anything that
comes to mind. Sometimes I just start the tape (it's not a physical
tape these days, it's a computer) and let it run while I play several
songs.

This CD Craig and Heather
is very similar to my previous CDs in that respect.
Like my previous CDs, it's not very "produced".
There's little or no post processing done to the audio,
just a little reverb to warm it up a bit
from the dry sound of the studio.

Craig and Heather
is the culmination of a one year teaching project.
Heather Larsen came to me with a bit of background in opera
and felt like she was doing a good job learning from "the fat lady".
But she just didn't dig opera. She wanted to learn to sing pop music.
We actually started in 2004 but were interrupted by Heather's
Army National Guard unit getting sent to Iraq. So a nearly 3 year
break in her lessons took place. We started up again in 2007,
and just less than one year later, we produced this CD as an
example of what we had achieved.

We're both pleased with the results!

Heather's voice, my jazz guitar
I wrote the arrangements and engineered the recording.
It is recorded as if live. Vocals and guitar were recorded
all at once. There were no overdubs, no punches, no studio tricks.
What you hear on the CD is an honest representation of what you would
hear if you were in the audience at our concert.

Breaking Glass and Setting Off Motion Detectors!

Thanks for Stopping By

You know me. You probably don't know that you know me, but you do. If you watched television
or listened to FM radio just about any time during the 60's and 70's you've heard and probably seen me.

I was a Hollywood studio musician and voice over artist during the late 60's and most of the 70's.
I literally lived in the studios and answered the call whenever a producer or musical director needed
a guitarist, vocalist or announcer.

You saw me on "The Love Boat" and "Lawrence Welk" and "CHiPs". You heard me play guitar or bass
or mandolin or Arp synthesizer on "Theme from Shaft" and "Ironsides" and "The Smothers Brothers".
You heard my voice on commercials like "Operation", "Liv-A-Snaps" and "Tidy Bowl". I was young and
full of energy and loved every minute of that hectic lifestyle.

Today, I'm retired. I live a much less fast paced life on my ranch in Phoenix, with my girlfriend of
30+ years, my horses, my dogs, and my collection of guitars and other instruments. Most of my day
is spent working with music students and experimenting with strings and other music accessories.
I'm pretty much changing strings on something every day or two. So I get a chance to try
every brand/style/type of guitar/bass/mandolin string I come across. I buy them all,
at regular retail prices, and try them. Then when I find strings and other items that I like, I become an
authorized dealer for that company. Everything I sell is something that I personally recommend and
it's something that I professionally use myself. I don't sell anything that I'm not personally familiar with.

Were you the 'Lumpy' on Leave it to Beaver?
No, the actor that played Lumpy Rutherford was Frank Bank.
I am also not Hugh 'Lumpy' Brannum, the guy that played 'Mr Greenjeans'
on the TV series Capt Kangaroo. I'm the 'other' Lumpy..:-)

Buying strings and accesories
from me is simple -

Purchase the items you want, send me a PayPal, and I'll send your
strings and accessories to you via USPS Priority Mail that same day
(or the next available mailing day). Most places in the USA receive
Priority Mail packages from me within 2-3 days max. I've even had some
packages ship in the morning and arrive at the destination later
that same day! I'll gladly accept other forms of payment.
Money Orders and personal checks are fine. Please don't send cash
or live chickens. Cash is kind of awkward to deal with and it's
risky to mail. And I have more live chickens than I could
ever want. It's a myth that they only "cock-a-doodle-doo"
in the morning. Those darn birds make that ridiculous noise all night long!.
