Strengthen Our Sisters
is a 501c3, grass-roots, non-profit, 177 bed shelter program serving homeless/battered
women and children. Our mission is to break the cycle of domestic violence
and to empower the families we serve. Programs include: crisis intervention;
24 hour hotline; counseling; advocacy; parenting classes, children's workshops
(breaking the cycle); stress management, self-esteem, and healing workshops/support
groups; child care; transportation; job training and employment opportunities
through the Self-sufficiency Women's Action Network (SWAN) -- economic
development program; GED classes; computer classes (CompuLearning); 12-step
meetings; prenatal (Start Ahead) program; Cars for Success program; computer
tech workshops, and - most importantly - mentoring.
