Southyrn Style Flies

Southyrn Style Flies was started in 1981 by James and Jim Hebert. James started tying and selling flies to local fly shops in the South Mississippi area. He introduced Jim to fishing at a young age, 4 years old, and taught him how to tie flies at the age of 11. Jim learned to tie mostly freshwater flies to start and later began tying saltwater flies. After tying freshwater flies, size #10 - #24, saltwater fly tying was easy for Jim. In March of 1999, James passed away. After his death, Jim continued tying using all of the knowledge his Father passed on. "One of the most important things I think he taught me, was that Quality not quantity is best. I believe in this and always put Quality first when tying flies". |

28 pound Redfish

Jim now ties for Chandeleur Outfitters in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Chandeleur Outfitters buys exclusively from Southyrn Style Flies. Owner and Guide Rob Recio, supplies his clients with flies tied by Jim and they have produced some large Redfish. Recently, Rob put one of his clients on a large Redfish. Using one of Jim's Crab patterns, the Big Red took it on the first strip. After a 30 minute fight the Big Red was boated and weight 28 pounds. The client later said "that was the trip of a life time".
