In rare instances there is a possibility that your Sprinter has a black rubber applied under the chrome strip on the hood. I’ve seen more cases out of hundreds but with those you will have to trim the rubber with a sharp knife and use the Prep All shown in the picture with a cloth and rub. From my experience the Prep All didn’t hurt the finish and it’s available at Wal-Mart, otherwise the Goof Off or the Gunk Bug and Tar remover works great on the 2 sided tape.
This one is by far the best:3M Adhesive, Wax and Mark Remover. The 3M remover will not damage automotive paint! And, it simply works much better - apply it to the adhesive residue with a well-soaked rag and work at it. It WILL dissolve and come off, but requires a lot of elbow-grease.
Customer comments:
We have a newer 2006 Sprinter and when I removed the hood trim strip (using a heat gun) the black adhesive left behind was the EXTREMELY difficult kind to remove, as you described. I took it to my friend at a body shop and he used an air compressor tool called an "eraser": it is a soft rubber head that spins rapidly and removes foreign material from paint. It does NOT remove paint. He spent 15 minutes removing this adhesive, it was a real pain. But I paid him $20 and it was WORTH IT. Highly recommend to your customers to do this!!!
Armorol (the original) work to.Spray and waite 24h.to 48h.and kip it wet.Real ARMOROL is the best.Cover the new grille from the chemicals too.
If you see problems get advice from body-shop before your paint is damaged.
