HOW I GRADE PAPERBACKS

AGE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CONDITION!!!!!

Mint: Absolutely brand-new and in perfect condition.

Near Mint: Cover bright, crisp, and unfaded with only extremely minor signs of wear. Spine tight, square, and clean with only the most minor wear spots. Pages white. Plastic lamination may be slightly chipped.

Very Fine: Some slight fading of the cover or spine and possibly a very slight crease along the edge of spine indicating one careful reading. No major signs of wear anywhere.

Fine: Spine very clean and perhaps slightly bent. Stress lines noticeable but minor. No creases or bends in the cover. Pages mostly white or lightly tanned. Edge staining could be slightly faded. Light wear, minor color flaking, minor rubbing noticeable on extremities. Cover lamination may be slightly peeling at corners.

Very Good: Cover has slight bends or creases and luster is mostly gone. Pages fresh but browning. Spine is bent, not broken or torn. Possible minor spine splits at top and bottom. Wear spots, chipping, and rubbing noticeable but not major. No tape repairs. Lamination peeling in spots.

Good: Cover has bends, creases, and is faded with no pieces missing. Spine is loose but still intact and could be rolled. Some pages could have minor tears. An average used copy.

Reading Copy: Heavily read and soiled. Torn cover or pages and a rolled spine likely. Possible stains and damage from the elements.

HOW I GRADE COMICS

AGE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CONDITION!!!!!

     Using my guidelines below and Overstreet's Price Guide I grade each lot at the level of the item in the poorest condition or lower. Most of the lot will usually be in much better condition than what is stated. My comic auctions start with extremely low opening bids.  Read description and look carefully at the picture. If you have any questions, please ask them before bidding.   Thanks.

Near Mint: Nearly perfect. Tiny corner creases or staple stress lines, a few color flecks or bindery tears.

Very Fine: Cover flat. Pages off-white to white. Slight wear beginning to show, but still sharp, bright, and clean.

Fine: Flat and clean with no major creasing or serious defects. Cover inks show significant reduction in reflectivity. Surface wear and smaller defects, especially on spine and edges.

Very Good: Could have center crease or rolled spine. Some discoloration, fading, and minor soiling allowed. Small piece may be missing at the corner or edge. Cover and interior pages can have minor tears and folds and the center page may be loose. Pages may be brown but not brittle. May have minor tape repair.
