I've never really gone into my experience, background, qualifications or the whole process of restoring antique telephones and electric fans that I use but over the years I've received numurous inquiries and it seems more frequently lately. So here goes the short version. I dont want to bore anybody so it wont be in my future listings or auctions, but I can and will make it available in my Me page from now on. 

 I'm pretty serious when it comes to restoring antique telephones, I've been doing it over 20 years and I love doing it, alot. To the best of my ability and to make every set as perfect and authenic as possible. I'm not saying that I'm perfect or I have the best phones on ebay or that my methods are better than someone elses, (I admire other peoples work every day). I have litterally tryed or used it all when it comes to cleaning, disassemballing, assemballing, testing, adjusting, repairing, restoring bakelite or old paint, polishing plastics, brass, nickel, etc., stripping to far gone wood or metal surfaces, prepping the surface and refinishing them. I've tryed them all and what I do and use now is what I honestly believe to be the best, most durable, authenic method and process available. I'm not saying others methods are wrong, they're not. Just what I use and do is what works best in my opinion. 

I want you to feel good about your antique telephone and the deal you made on it.

At the risk of sounding corny, when someone has one of my phones in their home, office or collection (and I've sent them all over the world) for them to love their phone and to admire my restoration makes me very happy and gives me alot of satisfaction. For them to come back and bid on a future auction is my goal. Once in a while (rarely) they're not satisfied, for whatever reason, But I can guarantee I will resolve the situation by whatever means nessesary.   

Did You Know?

If a seller receives more than a few Detailed Seller Ratings of less than 5eBay feedback stareBay feedback stareBay feedback stareBay feedback stareBay feedback star,

Then they will be significantly penalized.

When eBay calculates a seller's 12 months feedback percentage,

A eBay feedback icon (Neutral) is treated exactly the same as a eBay feedback icon (Negative).

The Internet Merchants Association wants you to know this before you leave feedback for a seller.

You may think that you are leaving a reasonable rating by giving a seller DSR's of 4eBay feedback stareBay feedback stareBay feedback stareBay feedback star's , but eBay's feedback
system treats anything less than a 5 eBay feedback star's as sub-standard and penalizes sellers for DSR ratings that average under 4.60.

An example would be : 10 x 5 eBay feedback star's + 10 x 4 eBay feedback star's = 90 'points' divided by 20 total ratings = DSR score of 4.50!

These statements are not opinions. THEY ARE FACT!!

Detailed Seller Ratings (DSR's).

The IMA believes eBay buyers are very smart consumers who have not been well informed regarding the recent feedback changes. One key area that is important for eBay buyers to understand is the new feedback rating system - DSR’s.

It would be normal for a buyer to assume that a rating of 4 eBay feedback stareBay feedback stareBay feedback stareBay feedback star's is a good rating for the seller.
Based on the above definitions, it would mean that the description was accurate, you were satisfied with the communication, and you felt the item was shipped quickly at a reasonable cost. Unfortunately, the reality is that any rating lower than 5 eBay feedback star eBay feedback stareBay feedback stareBay feedback stareBay feedback star's can have a significant negative impact on sellers and the eBay community as a whole because eBay has structured the system to reward sellers with over a 4.5 average, and to penalize sellers with under a 4.5 average.

Yet from the wording of the allowed ratings a buyer would never know this and most would naturally assume that a 4 star rating is a very good rating. After all, staying in a 4 star resort is considered to be very good in the real world and 5 star resorts are rare and extremely expensive. If a seller has a 4.6 or lower rating, eBay will penalize that seller by charging them higher fees, and disadvantaging that seller’s items in search.
What this means to you, as a buyer, is higher prices. The more fees eBay sellers pay, the more they must charge for their items. When a seller’s items are disadvantaged in search, sales slow and prices increase.
If a seller has met your expectations in all areas, then the only fair rating is a 5 Star Rating.

FEEDBACK - Yes, those eBay feedback icon, eBay feedback icon and eBay feedback icon's !

In addition, eBay asks you, the buyer, to give the transaction an overall rating of either :
A “Positive” eBay feedback icon, a “Neutral” eBay feedback icon or a “Negative”eBay feedback icon rating.


This seems pretty self-explanatory, but things are not always as they appear. The term that is misleading is “Neutral”. Normally, if something is rated as neutral, it would not effect on a score one way or the other. However, eBay calls the score a Positive Feedback percentage. They calculate the score by dividing the total number of positives by the combined number of positives, neutrals, and negatives.
Therefore, a neutral impacts a seller’s score in exactly the same manner as a negative.

Feedback displayed examples could be :

A seller has 100 eBay feedback icon's and ONE eBay feedback icon, their feedback % is 99% and not 100%
A seller has 100 eBay feedback icon's and ONE eBay feedback icon, their feedback % is 99% and not 100%

So it must be emphasized that if you leave a seller a Neutral, it will figure into their score exactly the same as a negative, which can cause eBay to penalize the seller as described above. Sellers want you to leave them a positive feedback, and they recognize that they have to earn that. Most sellers are anxious to hear from you if you felt that the transaction was less than a positive experience. We strongly encourage you to email the seller with any problem and allow them the opportunity to resolve your issue. The IMA believes that people are basically good and that most problems can be worked out amicably between the two parties.

A Note about the Two Shipping Stars:

Shipping and handling charges should be the only star rating you know at the time of purchase, as the charges are specified upfront. It should be noted that sellers have little or no control over what the shipping carriers charge for transporting items. Some very large companies receive large discounts on shipping, but very few eBay sellers receive discounts. Please keep in mind that there is really no such thing as free shipping. It is paid to the shipping company by the seller, who must then incorporate this cost into their prices. Since the buyer is aware of the shipping and handling charges before purchasing the item, the most important points to consider when leaving a star rating for Shipping and Handling Charges are not the actual charges, but the following:

Did the seller:

  1. Quote the shipping price in the original auction listing?
  2. Ship using the method stated in the auction?
  3. Pack the shipment correctly?
  4. Pack the shipment safely, using appropriate packing materials?
  5. Charge a reasonable shipping price, compared to other online sellers?

The answers to these questions should guide you toward the correct star rating.

Important Points to Consider when leaving a Star Rating for Shipping Time:

The most important point to consider regarding the Shipping Time star is that you should rate the seller on when the item is shipped, not when the item is delivered. This is particularly true for International orders, which are often delayed by Customs or Postal Inspectors upon entry into the country. We strongly recommend you examine the package for a postmark or other similar date marking, and rate the seller based on this date, not the overall delivery date. If you require your item extremely quickly, we recommend that you contact your seller. In many cases they can offer overnight or expedited shipping at an additional cost.

Final Comments:

Leaving a neutral or negative feedback, or leaving DSR scores of less than 5 is not the best way to get a seller to fix something. As these ratings can't be removed or changed, once they are left, they are left, and eBay recalculates the scores that represent this seller's reputation. Again, if you are having difficulties with the item you received, please give the seller the chance to make things right before leaving neutral or negative feedback, or a lower than 5 DSR rating.

It is not our intention to influence your decisions on the scores you give. Rather, it is our intention to educate you, so you can understand how DSRs and feedback impact sellers and the eBay Marketplace as a whole.
