Mark "Cecil" Cobb is the owner of The StoneWood Gallery and maintains a portfolio of expertly crafted juniper log furniture and home decor.  The online store is an extension of the Gallery. 

Why is M.C. Cobb's woodworking considered an art?  The detailed designs for these pieces comes straight from the artist.  There are times when the wood itself inspires the artist to create.   Mark has a relationship with the process of furniture-making. From harvesting the timber, to turning raw lumber into a high quality display of furniture, he handles the wood in all its phases. As a craftsman, he is experienced and skilled.  As an artist, he is talented and refined. M.C. has been working wood all his life. 

Having a grass-roots business with a workshop on-site, Mark reaches out to the local community with his art.  The customer knows who is crafting the work and has a first-hand viewing at the Gallery. Online, we rely on pictures and words in attempt to convey the beauty and quality. Art communicates to people.  There is a connection between the artist and the art, and a connection between the art and the customer.  This contact is very important in customer satisfaction.

Juniper oh Magnifico

He chooses to consider the environment.  Utilizing local resources that are renewable, recyclable and sustainable, 90% of all our furniture is made from Western Juniper. The Juniper are green-farmed, harvested from south central Oregon's high desert with minimal impact on the many interrelated ecosystems of the forest. Here it is beneficial to the watershed to harvest the Juniper. Small, selective-picking of the timber is also beneficial for encouraging  regrowth of pine seedlings and saplings in these forests that have been devastated of their old growth for commercial uses.  Responsible forest management means balancing water quality, wildlife issues, recreation, timber, and forest health.  These are lofty goals for one and all and  we can only strive toward minimal impact.
