| Greetings,
Since I began selling on Ebay
over 8 years ago, I have received many friendly inquiries, asking
who "Styleking" really is. In this informal manner I will shed some
light on how I came to Ebay and what I do today.
In pursuit of a career in the fashion industry, I relocated 13 years ago
from the West Coast to New York City. I have never regretted the
move, New York in my opinion is the greatest place in the world--and
certainly the hub of the fashion industry. Immediately upon my arrival,
I began making the rounds of the various fashion schools, by my inner voice
was telling me that this was not the route I should be taking. It
did not take me long, however to listen to that little voice. I soon
bypassed the fashion schools and set myself on my own course.
I was accepted at Parsons but the tuition combined with the cost of living
in New York was more than a bit much and I decided I did NOT want to be
a starving student.... The road to where I am now hasn't always
been smooth, but it certainly has been a colorful one! Everything
I have accomplished to date I have done on my own, and everything you see
below from the hair and make up to the clothing, accesories and photography
was done by me, I am completely self taught. It may not be the way
for everyone but it was my way and I am proud of my accomplishments.
Since coming to New York, I have had the good fortune to be involved in
a variety of jobs related to the fashion world, including a productive
internship with Carolina Herrera; styling for both fashion and film; dressing
several interesting and prominent people with my own creations, from Jon
Secada to the Snapple Lady to the late Osceola McCarty. I have also
done several collections staging a variety of shows of my own, from L.A.
to Miami and recently New York. Initially I came to Ebay,
like a myriad of others--curious as to what I would find. I heard
on the radio that one could find just about anything on this magical site,
from estate jewelry to Pez dispensers. Computers held no special
attraction for me. In fact, if you had told me that I would be, in
less than a year's time, conducting business via computer, I would have
told them they were crazy! But the fact is I am now doing a
full-time business and this is how it works: As a fashion stylist,
I have access to countless venues that most people do not. It is
for this reason that I am able, for example, to get a Gaultier to someone
in Idaho or a rare Halston gown to someone in Japan.
Below are some pics from my most recent collection, the menswear is from
a
menswear line I did in 2005. I also did costumes for a short
film called Napoleon in exile by the painter Mott McCampbell starring Henry
Ivani Chalian, there are two images below. Currently I
am still styling and doing production for fashion shows for Oscar De La
Renta working with a bevy of supermodels from Isabel Goulart to Jacquetta
Wheeler and my personal favorite Flavia De Oliveira and work with clients
as diverse as Versace to Saks Fifth Avenue. I am fortunate
to be able to enter the crazy world of fashion without the ties that bind
so many and return to selling on Ebay and pursuing my career. It
is nice to do a job and walk away. Fickle as fashion is I have
come to realize that it is the art of making clothes and design that matter
to me most, so in a way I am on the edge of the fashion pool dipping my
feet still deciding wether to dive in full force or enjoy the view........
I just did an interview with online magazine Indigomedia.com which is slated
to air in September, one showcases me as a hispanic designer and the other
is a story I did on thrift shopping in NY and neighboring hipster chic
Williambsburg. To all who see this remember
life is short I know it sounds cliche but just do it!! Money,
fame and all the trappings are fleeting true happiness is something we
all strive for, when you get it hang on to it and remember it and all else
will fall into place. www.sergioalainbarrios.com will
be available shortly where you will be able to browse and buy, mens, womens,
lifestyle and pets so check in from time to time, my ME page like my designs
is ever evolving. Take a few minutes to browse and please
feel free to pose any questions, offer any suggestions or criticisms you
might have. I am very people oriented, so even if you don't buy from
me, you are most welcome to say hello. I love hearing from fellow
Ebayers. Thank you for taking the time to peruse my page. You
never know what you will find when shopping at Styleking......
Last update June 2007.
