I had nurtured a dream of selling specialist gift wrap but 'tested the water' by selling 23 shades of tissue paper. I made so many mistakes at first but used each error as a lesson learned and tried not to let these minor irritations get me down.
The nearest I came to giving up was during my very first few months when a customer who had obviously realised that I was very green, threatened to give me a negative for poly bagging her tissue paper rather than sending it completely flat. I was forced into giving her a full refund rather than face the consequences of a negative at such an early stage! My confidence was shattered but my husband encouraged me not to give up and thankfully I managed to put it all behind me!
My chaotic days were then spent folding thousands upon thousands of sheets of tissue paper and repackaging them into retail packs. Also, of course, I had to roll the cellophane wrapping film into lengths of 10 metres from 120 metre rolls. During the heat of the summer in 2008 I received countless 'static shocks' whilst rolling the film, so much so I think it made my hair curly! I worded, then re-worded my listings so many times just to try to get more visibility in the searches.
Eventually I increased my range of tissue to include more speciality types such as patterned, glitter and metallics and began to develop a firm base of regular customers. I always try to post on the day of the order if at all possible, this has often meant racing against the clock to package and label everything for the sprint to the post office before the last collection.
Gradually it all began to gel and now 'The Wrapping Ranch' appears at the top of page 1 of a google search for patterned tissue paper. SUCCESS AT LAST!
It is my firm belief that my customers are the lifeblood of The Wrapping Ranch and they deserve the best service possible. It is always my intention to give them exactly that and I think that this is the best policy of a good business!
I have 'met' hundreds of lovely people through Ebay and am delighted at the wonderful feedback comments that so many of them have left. It is not entirely unusual for some of my customers to email me just for a chat rather than to buy. I am always encouraged by this contact and have come to regard quite a few customers as firm friends!
I am always increasing my range of products and am planning some very interesting and exciting items in the near future. Watch this space.
Love and luck, Sue x
