Orchids
The Living Jewels of Malaysia
For centuries, orchids
have fascinated people across the globe, from the early Greeks to the Chinese in
the Confucius era
( 551-479 BC ). Today,
orchids in their mysterious shapes, sizes and colors,
including a host
of hybrids, remain mush admired and revered.

Malaysia, with a geological history of
millions of years, is a natural home to a vast variety of orchids,
from the tiny Taeniophyllum species to
the gigantic Grammatophyllum species, the largest of orchids by far.
In between are species of bizarre
shapes, size, colors and characteristics.
They grow from the forested slopes of
hills and mountains to the heart of the age-old rainforests.

The growing interest in orchids has
spurred a vibrant industry in the cultivation and the production
of cut-flowers from a cornucopia of
hybrids. Malaysia is now one of the leading producers and exporters
of cut-flowers in the world.
