CHILDRENS INFORMATION Questions - Answered:

Q1. How often do I need to change my child’s shoes?

How often you need to change your child’s shoes depends on the child and their age. On average children’s feet grow at two sizes per year in the first four years of life and one size per year thereafter until growth is complete. However, a child’s foot may not grow for a considerable period of time and then grow several sizes in a relatively short period. To ensure that shoes still fit properly for length and width a trained shoe fitter should check them every eight weeks. You may do this more frequently if you are aware that they are actively growing in height. In general, the main period of accelerated growth for in girls is between eight and 13 years with the peak rate at approximately 12 years of age. In boys this is slightly later between 10.5 and 16 years with the peak rate at approximately 14 years. This corresponds with puberty.

 

Q2. How can I check that my child’s shoes fit properly?

This is best done by the shop where the shoes were bought, ideally by a trained shoe fitter who will also measure the feet. Some retailers will keep a note of the foot size and fitting or provide you with your own record card. An easy way to check the length yourself is to cut a strip of paper that is the same length as the inside of the shoe. Place this against the skirting board and get the child to stand on it. Measure the distance between the longest toe and the end of the piece of paper. A newly fitted shoe will be approximately 12 – 16 mm longer than the longest toe to allow for growth and the foot elongating when walking. Shoes that are only 5mm longer should be regarded as too short and replaced.

 

Q3. Should my child wear the same shoes everyday?

Not everyone is able to afford several pairs of everyday shoes for their child. Ideally, different shoes should be worn on alternate days to allow the shoe to dry out, as children’s feet can be particularly sweaty. Wearing damp shoes all the time can make the child more prone to athlete’s foot and verrucae.

 

Q4. Are plimsolls advisable?

Plimsolls are ideal for the purpose for which they were designed – as a flexible gym shoe worn for short periods.

They should not be worn for long periods every day (as is the practice in many primary schools and left in shoe bags overnight where they sweat from the previous day does not dry out). They do not come in half sizes and width fittings and it is rare to hear of any that are fitted by a trained shoe fitter. The soling material tends to encourage the foot to sweat that makes it more prone to athlete’s foot and verrucae infections. Very young children (primary 5) are often encouraged to wear slip-on plimsolls, as they cannot tie their laces. This may result in toe deformities.

 

Q5. Can a young child tell if her shoes hurt?

Children tend to adapt to what they regard as normal and accept it. Peer group pressure and the dictates of fashion may also stop a child complaining. This is why skilled shoe fitting and regular checks are so important particularly with very young children.

 

Q6. What socks are best?

Firstly the sock should fit and be the same size as the shoe. One hundred per cent cotton is best particularly if the child has skin problems. Most cotton socks contain a small percentage of nylon. A 50 per cent wool/50 per cent mix is also very good. Avoid 100 per cent nylon socks as they will make the foot sweat and do not absorb moisture. Some modern walking socks have a wicking effect and when used with footwear with a Gore-Tex lining keep the foot dry. They are usually made from modern synthetic fibres but can be expensive.

 

Q7. Do trainers need to be fitted?

Fitted trainers are best but not always possible. Remember that many trainers are designed for particular sporting activities and may not be suitable for regular every day wear. Children often pick trainers due to peer group pressure and fashion trends to wear the right label.

 

Q8. Are there any warning signs I should look for when I check my child’s feet?

Yes. These can be broken down into four main areas. These are skin, nails, deformities and posture.

Skin – look for areas of redness and rashes particularly between the toes, in the arches and below the ankle bones indicating athlete’s foot, particularly if they are itchy. Look for red marks and/or blisters at the back of the heel and on the tops of the small joints of the toes indicating ill-fitting shoes. Raised and painful hard masses on the soles of the feet may indicate a verruca.

Nails – any inflammation around the nails should be taken seriously as it may indicate infection. Any discolouration of the toenails should be checked by your podiatrist.

Deformities - Toes should always be straight in line with the foot and not drawn back or curled. The fifth toe may tuck under the fourth slightly and the fourth under the third toe but the big toe should also be straight.

Posture – If the feet appear to be excessively turned in or out or the arch looks very flat, particularly if the child complains of pain, the advice of your registered podiatrist should be sought.

 

CLOTHING 

When purchasing any item of clothing, buyers should be aware of shrinkage rate which the standard acceptable rate is roughly 6%. Good quality items have generally gone through various washing processes, hence further washing shrinkage rate is minimised, but many cheaper clothing items do not go through the same processes, which is one reason why they are cheaper. It is a good idea to ask retailers what the shinkage rate is on an item, if they are good at their job and really care about you as a long term customer then they should be knowledgable about such things and be able to tell you so that you can better judge purchase of correct sizing. An item may fit perfectly in a shop, but once it has been washed a couple of times you don't want it to look like you have put on a stone in weight. I myself have been very disappointed on many occassions and now keep away from some high street brands due to items being made useless from over shrinkage. If an item does shrink by an excessive amount then I personally would state unacceptability to the shop and demand a full refund and if it was refused then I have previously suggested that I would stand outside the shop with the item and explain the situation to potential customers entering the shop. This has resulted in the shop refunding payment for the item which I have then used to purchase a replacment item elsewhere.

Careing for your clothing

Always ensure you follow the washing instructions, especially regarding wash temperature, as just a slightly higher temperature can make a lot of difference and so can tumble drying which drys the fibers quickly and un-naturally. For those special favourite items it might be worth considering gentle hand washing and drying naturally on a hanger or laid flat on a suitable surface, depending on the material.

GENERAL FEET FACTS & QUESTIONS

A study in 2008 by the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society found that 88 percent of women in the United States wear shoes that are too small and 55 percent have bunions.

Bunions are nine times more common in women than men. The most common cause of bunions is the prolonged wearing of poorly fitting shoes.

The fact that such a high percentage of USA women wear shoes that are too small, does suggest to me that manufacturers in UK/EU as well as USA, are much to blame for this problem via footwear that is not wide enough for the majority of average foot sizes. On all our listings we provide fitting measurments which to many people, the measurments will seem small. The reality is that normally, people would just purchase & wear the same footwear without a thought to the width size, hence the provision of our measurments does sometimes result in putting people off from purchasing, with fewer people buying our items. I would much rather provide our fitting measurements and not sell an item than to not provide them and sell footwear that may damage buyers feet.

Then there is the money side, feet provide most of us with our basic ability to travel to work and earn money, for basic living needs, cars, purchasing a house. Everyone ages, and with greater age, many physical abilities and capabilities are reduced anyway which is why it is so important to maintain and look after our bodies so that we can carry on doing and enjoying those things we love so much. Why don't manufacturers provide better fitting footwear? There are just so many different shapes and sizes of feet, that it would be uneconomical for manufacturers to provide such a large number of variant sized footwear.  There are some specialist manufacturers that do provide a range of width fittings and there are also handmade specialists who will produce personal correct fitted footwear. Ultimately it is the individuals responsibility to make a right decision in purchasing footwear.

How can I remove glue marks on the shoes? Use lighter fluid. Ordinary lighter fluid applied to a white rag will remover the glue. You can also use glue thinner which can be purchased from shoe repair shops. Please note that postage may vary for same items, this is due to extra weight of larger sizes. Many sellers charge a more expensive flat rate for ALL items but why should you pay extra when it is not necessary.  ALL our items are individually weighed and correctly priced, then we reduce postage so that the price you pay for it is LESS than what we pay for it.  If thats not worth 100% postage ratings every time I don't know what is.

DISPATCH

PLEASE be aware:-

1. That we dispatch items within 1 FULL working day (NOT including weekend/bank holidays) of received/cleared payment.

2. Delivery times depend on payment method AND chosen postal option, so if you want to ensure/increase speed of delivery please choose a faster postage option and faster payment method. For your peace of mind, increased safe and speedy arrival ALL ITEMS are sent by recorded delivery including International shipping

3.Standard UK delivery is Royal Mail 2nd class, but due to OUR HIGH speed of dispatch MOST 2nd class items are received in 1 to 3 days, but this solely depends on Royal Mail, the area of delivery and at busy seasonal times, Royal Mail services are slower. We do sometimes upgrade items to 1st class at NO extra cost but this is done solely at our discretion, hence we WILL NOT upgrade free upon request, so please expect 2nd class delivery, unless otherwise paid for.

4. Royal Mails stated delivery times ARE NOT guaranteed, they are prefered delivery times, Royal Mail allow 15 days from due date of arrival (NOT DISPATCH DATE) before an item can be reported as missing. If you have not received an item 5 to 7 days AFTER receiving dispatch message PLEASE first and immediately contact your local Royal Mail parcels office as they may have it there as a failed delivery and if it IS NOT collected the item will be returned to us, upon which a further postage charge will be made for re-delivery, and the RE-delivery charge will be the FULL amount of Royal Mails charge and our handling costs. Royal Mail DO NOT always leave calling cards when delivery has been attempted, and in shared housing or some flats they can easily be lost so PLEASE be aware of impending delivery when you receive our automated dispatch message as we cannot and will not accept responsibility for failed deliveries and as such by purchasing your item you are agreeing to this and if necessary a second delivery charge which must be paid before re-delivery.

If there is a problem with delivery PLEASE complain to your local Royal Mail Parcels office and also to Royal Mails customer services as we are NOT responsible for their services, it is ONLY by doing this you will help to improve any faults/problems, but please also let us know.

5. PLEASE ENSURE you USE the ebay check out facility and correctly use it, as if you incorrectly use it, Paypal payments DO NOT always show up as paid on your ebay item, hence items can be severely delayed.

6. MANY big national sellers on ebay take LONGER to dispatch items than we do and that due to the carriers they use can also take much longer to arrive. Once payment has been received/cleared by us then items can arrive within 24 hours depending on postage option chosen and conditions, but most items are received within 1 to 3 days. In general our items can and DO arrive in less than half the time as per many larger sellers, but we can only be this quick if buyers, ebay, paypal and Royal Mail ensure their part does not incur faults, so please bear this in mind for late arrival on rare occassions. It is ONLY by customers complaining to Royal Mail directly that any faults or bad service can be improved and acted upon.

7. We dispatch ALL our items within 24 hours of received/cleared payment into our account (excluding UK bank holidays/weekends/stated holiday times as per Ebay shop holiday settings), via local post offices which provide us with excellent service. No matter how well this business does, we will continue to send many items via local post offices, as this helps to maintain their profitability and helps ensure they stay open to provide essential services for the local community.

8. FAILED DELIVERY. Our system is fully automated and sends customers a message to state that item(s) have been dispatched. Even before dispatch please be aware we dispatch VERY quickly and your item can, on some rare occassions, sometimes even arrive in LESS than 24 hours, so please ensure you have made arrangments for the delivery to be received.

If no-one is available to receive delivery Royal Mail should leave a calling card when delivery is attempted, but on occassions they do not or it may be misplaced or lost. If your item(s) has/have not arrived within 3 days of receiving dispatched message, please contact your local Royal Mail parcels office to enquire after your package, and then continue to contact them in 2 day intervals upto 7 days. PLEASE DO NOT contact us until AFTER 7 days of non delivery from dispatch message.

If  your package is returned to us due to failed delivery, on receipt we shall send you a message to state this and also state the reason that Royal Mail has marked/stated on the package. From the date we inform you of a failed delivery/returned  package we shall keep the item ready to be re-dispatched for 5 full working days, and then on the 6th day (unless otherwise agreed upon between the customer and us), if we have not been contacted and 2nd dispatch postage has not been received/cleared into our account, we will refund payment less our postage costs and any other associated refund of payment costs, ie our business cheques cost £0.65 each/or postal order charges/fees.

We do not accept any liability or costs associated with any lost, delayed, or returned package, but we will do our utmost to ensure that customers are compensated for any lost/missing item while in dispatch.

RETURNS & EXCHANGES POLICY

 

We accept returns

Purely as a suggestion, instead of returning a wrong sized item you could save the wasted cost of outward & inward postage by seeing if anyone you know would like the item and purchase it from you, or even give it as a gift, this could save you MANY £££s , depending on item postage cost.

 

If there is a need to return an item, please first contact us for details from the Ebay item page you purchased the item and return it in a new unused saleable condition within 7 days of receiving it and include the item number, your name and your Ebay ID name so that we may process it as speedily as possible. Please also ensure that items are returned in the original box that was provided including any item packaging and that the box is packed and protected within a secure covering or mailing bag.

RETURNS ACCEPTANCE CONDITIONS AND PROCEEDURE CHECK LIST

On the the rare occassion when an item needs to be returned  please ensure:-

1. You have contacted us via the Ebay item page of purchase within 7 days of receipt of the item.

2. You fully understand and agree to any non-refundable postage/shipping costs.

3. The item is returned within 7 days from receipt in new unused condition in original box and secure packaging cover/mailing bag, (please do not destroy original box by sending it wrapped in parcel tape)  and is received by us within 14 days (many sellers state 7 days)

4. The package is correctly addressed to the above returns address and your full return address is on the back (for your returns security & Royal Mails benefit).

5. Your real name, Ebay ID name, and Ebay item number  are included ( for your and our benefit of speedy processing items and refunds), and that you state the reason for the return, ie. DOES NOT FIT, FAULTY, WRONG ORDER, WRONG COLOUR, WRONG SIZE, WRONG SHOES and please kindly add any comments you may have.

6.The item is returned by the lowest priced recorded delivery (for your benefit of security and ours as we cannot refund for unreceived items and it would be senders responsibility to claim compensation from Royal Mail). Postage unpaid for returns will not be accepted and items not mailed to our returns address cannot be accepted.

7. You retain proof of postage, and recorded delivery receipts dated within 7 days of receipt of the item

8. Unfortunately no inward or outward delivery/postage/shipping charges are refundable unless the goods are faulty or were listed incorrectly by us.

Our return details are provided with items and also the address document on your item contains further item information so it is preferable that you keep these for a short period as on an extremely rare occassion a return may be required for various reasons

Please bear in mind that we are NOT responsible for any extremely rare defective item and that we also expect perfect items from manufacturers and suppliers. Even Rolls Royce or Jaguar/BMW/NIKE etc etc can have the odd item that does not meet with high standards.

Sorry to say we have to add conditions due to previous experience of receiving malicious and bad feedback from accounts with very low seller ratings and due to recent changes that give sellers no recourse without legal expense and much wasted time. As a business we take our responsibilities to customers very seriously, but as we all know from experience there are always a few who get away with bad, unfair and unjust behaviour, hence we have now had to include the below terms and conditions to meet the minority 2% to 3 % of not nice buyers/sellers, hence for 97% to 98% the below conditions have little or no effect or bearing.

 1. If you have 4.3 or less than 4.3 in any of the Feedback seller ratings then do not purchase any item from suziain-uk .

2.  If you have 4.4 in two or more Feedback seller ratings then do not purchase any item from suziain-uk-bargain-clearance-outlet without contacting suziain-uk via item messages and gaining permission to purchase.

2a. If you have 4.6 or less than 4.6 in 2 or more feedback seller ratings then do not purchase unless you have been provided by Suziain UK , permission to do so.

3. If you have 4.5 in any two or more Feedback seller ratings then do not purchase any item from suziain-uk-bargain-clearance-outlet without contacting suziain-uk first  via item messages and gaining permission to purchase.

3a. If you have received  1 non payers strike within the last 30 days please contact us before purchase and do not purchase until we have given permission to do so.

3b. If you have received 3 or more non-payers strikes on your account throughout it's history then please contact us and do not purchase until we have given permission to do so.

3c. If your feedback score is below 98% then please contact us and do not purchase until we have given permission to do so.

4. By purchasing any item/product from suziain-uk, buyers are agreeing to abide by and follow to the full and completion ALL ebay advice and proceedures regarding purchasing and leaving feedback. Do not purchase any item/product from suziain-uk if you are not willing to follow to the full, mandatory completion of all stated Ebay advice and proceedures concerning purchasing and feedback. 6. We take our business and customer services seriously by providing a unique measurment service, and due to variances/discrepancies in standardised sizing, and to save buyers/customers costly, wasteful and environmentally damaging returns we have taken positive action for the benefit of buyers, ourselves and the environment by measuring maximum length and width of EVERY footwear item design and size, and providing fitting instruction. Hence, it is the buyers responsibility to check and verify correct fitting of suziain-uk provided and stated item measurments before purchase.

7. Failure to meet any terms or conditions stated will result in a breach of suziain-uk  selling policy and at our discretion your purchase may be invalidated.

8. Buyers of suziain-uk items/products who do not meet the buyer/customer conditions as stated  above will be reported to Ebay for invalidation of any purchased item/product.  Payment received from invalidated purchases will be refunded only where due.

9. Any costs, legal or otherwise, accrued by suziain-uk due to the action(s) of buyers and as a result of them buying an item/product, whos purchase is invalidated and who are not entitled to purchase items/products from suziain-uk-bargain-clearance-outlet will be fully responsible for re-payment to suziain-uk of any such accrued costs.

Please remember that you do have legally binding statutory rights for ANY purchase on Ebay or  anywhere in the UK, which are unaffected by wrongful declarations made by ANY seller or retailer, but please remember that sellers also have legally binding rights.

From experience, most people I have dealt with on Ebay have been not just good, but great and much better than great, and appreciative of the lengths we go to provide excellent items and service, good prices and to correct any mistakes that we do occassionally make, and to ALL those people I would just like to say thank you for being you.
