Hi! This is a sister act! (Yes, God help us.) He, fortunately, has seen fit to Bless Us.
Sylvia & I have been working together for the last 34 years. We, originally, started out in a family Arts & Crafts store. Our business has evolved over the years into a unique Furniture & Gift store (pofad.com) which is in a renovated country barn. Our parents, now 73 & 80 years of age, are retired. Their main job now is emotional support which we accept gladly.
We have definitely taken the road less traveled. It has been a wonderful ride. One of the main reasons is - we've been blessed with so many great customers, over the years. Their encouragement and support has always been there.
This Ebay adventure is due to our brother "Mr. Computer". He has been trying to bring us into the technological world for many years. We are finally giving in, and are excited to begin our next step in this journey,
Thanks for letting me share some of our story,
Mary Lou
About Sylvia Dominguez ( My Sister - The Artist)
When I begin to think about what, and more importantly who, has helped shape my life's journey. It always begins with my parents. As far back as I can remember, they were always creative, hard working and willing to learn something new. Their work ethic is extraordinary...I learned, by example.
They began a small business in the 70's, an Arts and Craft Store. I began to paint at fifteen. By the time I was seventeen, I was teaching a variety of classes (Adult and Children) - ceramics, macrame, tole painting (in oils, it was the 70's) and more. It was fun, and suprisingly, comfortable for me.
Best of all, I took Oil Painting Classes from our wonderful Oil - Landscape Painting Teacher, Pat Donatelli, for just about 10 years. She gave me an indespensible foundation, that I call on everyday. The skills I learned from her - her approach, her problem - solving techniques, her joy for the work, are present in every piece I paint.
There have been many teachers in my life, over the years. I am inspired by, forever grateful, and blessed for their kindness, talent, and intelligence.
I can remember when I began to sell my work. What a terrifingly, exciting proposition! It was home boutiques, church halls, fairgrounds, and Art in the Park Days. We, with the effort of my entire family, eventually opened a studio/store that featured my work in my parents renovated barn. There were also 5 years of Country Folk Art Shows in Northern California, plus 5 years of Wholesale Gift Markets ... Dallas, Atlanta, Los Angeles. What a crazy life, - all the while the store has been the central hub.
Well, a number of years have passed since my wholesale years. Now, I have been able to concentrate on one of a kind pieces. I love it! Art Furniture, Vintage Purses, Suitcases, Oil Paintings ... whatever strikes my fancy!
I hope you enjoy the our Ebay auctions. As always, we learn as we go, so please bear with us. This is definitely a "work in progress".
Thank you for your interest. If you're in our area, please stop by and say Hi!
Forever the student,
Sylvia
