My husband Mike and I have been in antiques & collectibles for over 25 years. It started as a hobby to weed out our growing personal collections. After moving to our remote wilderness, we found that travelling the 50 PLUS miles to an antique mall to sell out items was a negative factor. Now we can do the same from home thanks to the internet (even though it is slow dial-up with no indication of ever having high speed available)! We generally sell items in categories that we personally like. I particularly like mid-20th century items including jewelry, housewares, decorative items, toys, souvenirs etc. Mike likes and sells postcards, ephemera, hardware, unusual items and objects d'art. We have found it's easier to promote an item you personally like. Our interest in history helps in finding unique items too!
My husband Mike and I being avid backpackers, moved from the DC suburbs 14 years ago to a remote hollow in Looneyville, West Virginia with our nearest neighbor over a mile away. We now live the backpacking experience on a daily basis including often having to pack goods a half mile thru the woods, up a creek and steep mountainside (our driveway in good weather) to get to our house, in inclimate weather. Because we have to pick our mail up at the tiny post office (only 2 miles away), we go there almost every day. This enables us to ship our Ebay packages on a very prompt and regular basis. In addition to our Ebay business, Mike is an accomplished artist and woodcarver. He carves canes & hiking sticks from the sapling roots found on our land. You can see more about his art on our www.happyacresart.com website.
We enjoy spending time with our "little family" of a dog, a cat and our 27 year old blue front amazon parrot. Some of our favorite pastimes are sitting around the campfire, hiking & exploring our property, reading and watching lots of movies as we don't have television. Having worked many years in fine dining, I have developed a love of cooking and spend much time in the kitchen and Mike appreciates this a lot! :)
