"THE SMOKIN' WOLF" ANNIN SOLDIER WOLF: Nth.ARAPAHO
|
WE ARE THE "SOLDIER WOLF" FAMILY OF THE NORTHERN ARAPAHO TRIBE; SITUATED ON THE WIND RIVER INDIAN RESERVATION; CENTRAL WYOMING.
WE CREATED A SMALL FAMILY OUTLET HERE ON THE REZ. CALLED "THE SMOKIN' WOLF TRADING POST", FOR FAMILY & EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBERS TO SELL THEIR BEADWORK & OLD NORTHERN ARAPAHO ARTS' N' CRAFTS. THESE PIECES ARE ALL FAMILY MADE, SOME NEW, SOME OLD, SOME FROM OLD DANCE OUTFITS OR GIVEN TO SOMEONE OVER THE YEARS. Sometimes its hard to part with such items. So we take them off market for a while.
From time to time we also will sell items that we have bought that has not worked out for us , so we in turn sell them on ebay.
INTRO:
Annin Soldier Wolf, Nth.Arapaho tribal member is a multi-talented Artist & Craftsman of old Nth.Arapaho Crafts, Traditional horseman & Dancer, Beader & family man. Annin is also a twice recipient of the "Wyoming Arts Council for Folk/Traditional Arts" 2008 & 2009. The Wyoming arts Council recognizes this as a dying art that needs to be saved. He was taught mainly from his Father, Mark Dewey Soldier Wolf, who was in turn was raised & taught by the old original sub-war chief, Soldier Wolf (brother to Sharpnose) & Red Necklace, his wife, (Cassie LittleAnt). Mark's real father Scott "scout's enemy" Dewey taught him many things, mainly the art of "Buffalo Hide Items, with design etchings in the hair. This he passed onto Annin. It is not practiced by anyone we know of (as it's hard, tedious work) , so it is rare, original & hard to find..
These item made by Annin, range from Buffalo hide Women's Tops, Mens Vests, belts, knife scabbards, Shields, Warrior Saddle-Rugs, bags, Mocassins, women's leggings, cuffs, drops, & etc. They also served a purpose to the wearer that they often deflected hostile arrows while in Battle & at camp. They were decorated with designs & stories etched into the buffalos hair. Some left longer in places than others. This was before beads were introduced to the Northern plains tribes.
Alot of rawhide work on Todays market is nice to look at but it is so often done with paint or markers. Annin's pieces are all done by hand, cut & re-cut a few times then carved & etched designs with stories behind them all. Sometimes using earth paint , roots & berries for color. Alot of hard , painstaking, tedious work, hence there is very few, if any, artist out there that do this type of Art / Craft any more. This is all 100% Authentic, handmade, original, one of a kind, speciality work from Annin Soldier Wolf, Nth.Arapaho Warrior Wolf clan- Bad Pipe Society. Wind River Indian Reservation; Central Wyoming.
WE TREAT OUR CUSTOMERS WITH RESPECT & ARE BIG BELIEVERS IN
"WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND".
