We are Jim and Melissa and making custom doggie gear is our full time job! We began our business in 2002 and were one of the very first custom dog collar manufacturers on the web! We started our business so that we could offer an alternative to the mass produced collars available at major pet stores. We started by offering collars and leashes in 10 different fabrics and have grown our business to include more than 25 different products in more than 200 different fabrics! We made The Cozy Critter our full-time job in 2005 and began taking our business on the road! We travel all along the west coast following the sunshine and conduct our business from our Cozy trailer while we're traveling! See our trailer!

We enjoy meeting our customers face-to-face both in RV parks and at craft shows and dog shows! This has allowed us to improve upon our products and create new products as well! This has also allowed us to become very familiar with most breeds of dogs, allowing us to design various different harness styles and products for every breed!

Construction:
We are very proud of the products that we create! We make all of our products ourselves on our industrial upholstery sewing machine, named Connie. (yes, we actually named our sewing machine!!) Connie can sew through 1/4 inch of leather and is designed for the strongest applications, making her perfect for sewing dog collars! We make our collars, leashes, and harnesses by sewing our cotton fabrics over webbing. We reinforce the stress points with a triple stitch so that the seam can never come apart!

Hardware: (all metal hardware on our products is a nickel/chrome finish)
Webbing: We use a polypropylene webbing on all of our collars, leashes, and harnesses! Polypro is water resistant and mildew resistant, so the collars won't retain water or start smelling like some traditional nylon collars. If you have ever bought a nylon collar, you may notice that your pets natural oils will soak into the collar making it smelly and filthy... polypro is non-absorbent, so the oils will not penetrate the collar! Our webbing is rated at 800lbs, making it strong enough for even the biggest dog!
Buckles: We use sleek contoured buckles on all of our collars. Contoured buckles are essential for a comfy collar as the buckle will lay gently against your pet's neck! Our buckles are extremely strong and durable making them suitable for wear on any breed!
D-Rings: We use only welded D-rings on all our products! For the safety of your pet ALWAYS make sure the D-ring is welded, as a non-welded D-ring can pull open, allowing your dog to escape from a leash or tie-out and possible loose his/her tags as well!
Slides (tri-glides): We use wide-mouth tri-glides to allow for quick size adjustments!
Thread: We use a sun-guard 92 polyester thread. The sun-guard thread prevents the threads from deteriorating in the sun and water! We use the heaviest thread possible to ensure strong seams and prevent a simple dog scratching from breaking the threads!
Fabrics: We work hard to offer a wide selection of top quality fabric choices! We strive to select prints that are small enough to be visible on all sizes of collars. If a print is just too cute to pass up, but is a bit large, we will always include a note in our auctions recommending the wider width collars! We do our best to sew the fabrics such that the best possible print placement is achieved. If you ever receive a collar and are not 100% satisfied with the print placement, you are always welcome to send it back and we'll make you a new one!
