Dragon Takes The Wraps Off of its Latest Panzer
By all accounts, the Panzerkampfwagen IV served as the workhorse of the German Wehrmacht during Worild War II, serving on all fronts and bearing the brunt of much of the armored fighting on both the attack and the defense. With this in mind, Dragon today showed off their very first Panzer IV Ausf. F2 medium tank (DRA60088), which sports a powerful long barrel 75mm gun, the scourge of many an Allied tanker. Painted in a standard feldgrau (field grey) pattern, and bearing the insignia of the 11.Panzer Division, the all-new panzer depicts a tank then serving on the eastern front during the early portion of 1942. Expected sometime in December, we're placing a strong buy recommendation on this one, likely to be snapped up by wargamers and collectors alike by the droves.....[posted 11/12/2009]
The Holidays are Upon Us: Order Early
Amazing as it might seem, we're already in holiday mode, thanks to the arrival of several long delayed items, a strong in-stock position, an unbeatable 15% off sale, and free UPS ground shipping to destinations within the Continental US for orders of $100 or more. So what's the problem with a winning formula like that? Plenty. We've noticed that several of our suppliers are unable to handle re-orders we've tried to place with them for a number of items. Many manufacturers and distributors cut their own orders when they were unsure about the present state of the economy. Moreover, they've pushed back the release date for several items we thought would be available for the holiday season well into the New Year. In a nutshell, that means we're rapidly running out of certain merchandise, even at this early stage in the shopping season. We therefore urge you to place your orders with us as early as possible, to take advantage of any further discounts we may be running and to avoid disappoinment should we run out of the item you've had your eye on.....[posted 11/12/2009]
Hobby Master Storms Into History with the 1/4 Ton Jeep
Developed by the US Quartermaster Corps, the 1/4 ton jeep could perform a wide variety of functions, including towing a 37mm antitank gun over a 7% grade. Having said that, it should come as no surprise that a vehicle of such worth eventually find itself among the pantheon of military replicas being produced by Hobby Master. Their first version of the jeep will feature a towable trailer (HG4201), and represents a vehicle attached to the US 4th Marine Division, then assaulting Iwo Jima during February 1945. Look for the inaugural jeep sometime in February.....[posted 11/11/2009]

Century Wings Puts Another Tomcat in the Pattern
Guess you can never have enough F-14s. So says Century Wings, who just announced plans to offer yet another F-14 Fleet Defense Fighter for the holiday season. Based on an "A" model (CW729025), the all-new VF-84 "Jolly Rogers" warbird certainly looks stunning, adorned in a dark grey oceanic blend, blackened tail fins and customary skull-and-crossbones insignia that have come to symbolize all Jolly Rogers aircraft. Only 1,500 replicas will be made, so make sure to get in your orders early if you want to nab one of these swing-wing favorites.....[posted 11/10/2009]

Rossi Takes the Crown, Again
Valentino Rossi became the 2009 MotoGP champion by coming in third at the rain-soaked Maylasian Sepang MotoGP earlier today. It was his seventh MotoGP championship and ninth top title across all categories, making him one of the most formidable racing bike riders of all time.
For replica bike enthusiasts, his past Minichamps releases will likely to continue to soar in value as they become harder to find in the marketplace. For avid bike collectors, his 2009 replica bike is currently available for pre-sale, with an estimated street date of the first quarter of 2010......[posted 10/25/2009]
Unimax Sets Sail
In a bid aimed at expanding their Forces of Valor range, Unimax today announced plans to release a 1:700 scale replica of the WWII-vintage USN Missouri (UNI86003) and IJN Yamato (UNI86004) battleships. Designed with the naval enthusiast in mind, the new warships will be far larger than their previously released 1:1000 scale replica of the German battleship Bismarck. Scheduled to come out in November, both ships should make pleasant surprises this holiday season.
In other news, the Company has decided to move forward the release date for their 1:24 scale Radio controlled German King Tiger heavy tank and US Army Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). Both have now been rescheduled for a November ship, and will make nice bedfellows alongside their previously released German Tiger I heavy tank and US M4A3 Sherman medium tank....[posted 10/22/2009]

Corgi Debuts Their First Half 2010 Aviation Archives Range
Looking to build upon their successful 2009 lineup, Corgi drew back the curtains on their first half 2010 Aviation Archive range. While there were no new toolings unveiled, several aircraft looked especially appealing, such as this two piece set containing a Mark XIV Spitfire and German V-1 "Doodlebug" flying bomb. Also of note was a new B-17F Flying Fortress heavy bomber in US markings and a Blackburn Buccaneer strike aircraft in an earth tone camouflage pattern. Recently profiled in an episode on The Military Channel, the Canadian-built Avro CF-105 Arrow interceptor was designed during the Cold War and intended to protect the northern most regions of the North American landmass against incursions by Soviet bombers. Now, in conjunction with the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, the Avro Arrow (CWH001) is slated to become the first offering in their brand new Canadian Heritage Series of diecast aircraft. SkyMax Fires Up Its Jet Engines
We've been waiting with baited breath to see what SkyMax Models could come up with in the age of the jet aircraft and we sure weren't disappointed. Earlier today, the manufactuer released a group of images for their forthcoming Republic F-84 Thunderjet (SM6001), one of the first US aircraft to see action in the post World War II world. Easy Model Puts Forth Their Jagdpanzers
Admittedly, we've been a little slow to list every single 1:72 scale military vehicle available in the Easy Model catalog. Frankly, we were concerned that duplication of effort with Dragon's similar line of diecast military vehicles would simply create excess inventory and muddy the waters for the average collector. Having said that, we've nearly exhausted our supply of Dragon Jagdpanzer tank destroyers, many of which have rocketed in value. Seeing as how Easy Model's competing line is every bit as good as their Dragon counterparts, we recently decided to begin offering the Easy Model Jagdpanzer IV L/48 and L/70, and hope to take delivery of the first batch this October ....[posted 10/6/2009]

As a Dragon dealer, we were able to secure a small cache of figures and 1/4 ton armored trucks with 37mm anti-tank guns, all of which have been posted to our site and now in stock. An unusual looking vehicle, to be sure, the Buffalo has nevertheless performed yeoman work detecting and defusing scores of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) pre-positioned by Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan and rebellious factions in Iraq. Hobby Master Lights Some Fires with the F/A-22 Air Dominance Fighter
Talk about making news. According to HobbyMasterCollector.com, a fan-based web site that offers inside information concerning Hobby Master-related product, the manufacturer intends to produce a 1:72 scale replica of the USAF F-22 Air Dominance fighter (HA2801). What makes this announcement so spectacular is the fact that rival modelmaker Century Wings was purportedly planning on producing a similar 1:72 scaled F-22, even showing an engineering prototype at the February Nuremberg Toy Fair. Moreover, Century Wings uses Hobby Master's production facilities to build their own aircraft replicas, calling into question their relationship going forward. The North American distributor has indicated that the retail price for the F-22 will be $69.99, with a pre-order price of $64.99, and claims the plane is on track for a May 2010 release. Hobby Master Fields More Phantoms
It's common knowledge that every aviation enthusiast simply loves the F-4 Phantom II. Forever linked to the US involvement in the Vietnam Conflict, there were, of course, other client nations that purchased the McDonnell F-4 Phantom to serve as their frontline fighter bomber.
That said, Hobby Master has three non-US Phantoms scheduled for a December ship, each based upon different models of the Phantom. First up is an all-new rendition of the C model (HA1913), which flew for the Spanish Air Force in the 1970s. Next up is a Republic of Korea Air Force D Model (HA1914), which helped to defend their air space in the late sixties. SkyMax Lives Up to its Name with the Republic F-84 Thunderjet
With all the documentaries and books available, it was perhaps just a matter of time before someone got around to replicating Republic's F-84 Thunderjet. Designed as a straight wing jet fighter and employed during the early portion of the Korean War, The Thunderjet never truly lived up to its name, thanks in large part to the introduction of the faster and more nimble Russian-built MiG 15. Still, it proved its usefulness in other ways, bowing out to the North American F-86 Sabre jet as the principal means of dealing with the pesky MiG.
Now SkyMax Models plan to model the F-84 Thunderjet (SM6001) in exacting detail, claiming the warbird will be out before Christmas. There's a good chance they'll also be modeling the Thunderjet's successor, the F-84 Thunderstreak, which utilized more aerodynamic swept wings in place of the straight wing configuration. We expect the Thunderjet to do exceptionally well at retail, so make sure to submit your pre-orders early to be guaranteed one of these subsonic splendors...[posted 8/10/2009]

Minichamps Posts Pix of their 2009 Classics
Anyone that follows Minichamps knows that it can take some time before an announced product actually makes it to market. Hobby Master Straps on the Skyraider
Call it the Spad, Sandy or Able Dog, the Douglas A-1 Skyraider has been one of the most heavily requested models sought after by aviation buffs. Looking to keep their constituency happy and beef up their stable of combat aircraft, Hobby Master today announced their intent to replicate the Skyraider in 1:72 scale. The first offering is based upon an H model that was dubbed "Mig Killer", which flew with VA-176, then embarked upon the USS Intrepid (CVS-11) during October 1966 (HA2901). Piloted by Lt. (JG) William "Tom" Patton, Patton downed a MiG-17 jet fighter during a RESCAP mission over North Vietnam on October 9th, 1966. Unimax' Shifting Winds of War
In today's ever-challenging economic landscape, several longstanding toy manufacturers have had to reassess their business model to keep up with the fragile retail and e-tail worlds. In the case of Unimax, the makers of the wildly popular Forces of Valor and Bravo Team range of military miniatures, 2009 looks to be a year of significant change, one which they believe will bring about a redefined focus and stronger financial outlook going forward.
According to well placed sources within the company, Unimax has ceased manufacturing of their 1:32 scale, action grade, diecast Forces of Valor products -- the kind commonly found in such mass merchants as Target and Toys R Us -- in favor of the all-plastic 1:18 scale Bravo Team (Target Exclusive) and Assault Forces (other mass merchant retailers) military-themed brands. Looking ahead, the Company will still produce the 1:32 scale diecast enthusiast grade of Forces of Valor products for their ever growing online e-tailer and specialist retailer network. The Company cites demographic issues as a key concern for both the manufacturer and its retailing network, with kids tending to purchase the bulk of the modern era products and the older hobbyists and military enthusiasts opting for the World War II series. Having said that, the manufacturer will no longer be offering any World War II-based Bravo Team vehicles or figures to its mass merchant retail segment and instead offer them solely to the e-tailers and hobby shops. Only the modern era vehicles will be found at the mass merchants, an evolutionary shift in their selling strategy that was brought about by skewing marketing trends that was becoming acute at the retail level.
Frankly, we welcome the change in focus at Unimax, since it should cut down on the amount of overlap and confusion caused by offering both an action and enthusiast grade of similar products. Likewise, this shift will enable retailers such as ourselves to now carry their larger 1:18 scale WWII-themed products without having to compete with deep discount chains who may or may not have the same product at any given time.....[posted 7/28/2009]

Through rare archival footage, computer generated imagery, historical re-enactments, and interviews with World War II historians and veterans, this program -- the first in a new series created by Classic Planes and Historic Aviation -- examines the development and and operational history of German dive-bombers, from the early tests of the Junkers K 47 in the late 1920s through the end of World War II. As a bonus, you'll also get eight documentary shorts on legendary aircraft such as the R6V Constitution, the Curtiss Helldiver, and the Princess flying boat.
Expect the inaugural documentary sometime in mid-July with many more videos to follow in the months ahead...[posted 7/4/2009]
MotoGP News: Rossi and Company Descend on Laguna Seca
The Fourth of July may mean alot to the average American, but it also represents the running of the US MotoGP at Laguna Seca, California. This year, perennial favorite Valentino Rossi sits atop the standings with a whopping 131 points and three victories to his credit, not to mention recently racking up his 100th Grand Prix victory, the second rider to ever accomplish this feat. The usual suspects are tugging at his heels, including the likes of Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner, both within striking range of taking back the point lead. The race will likely be televised in most areas of the country, meaning there's lots to cheer about this holiday weekend....[posted 7/3/2009]
The Motor Pool: New Additions Section and M-Commerce
We've completed work on our all-new New Additions section, which can be found within the New Products link. Each time we add a new item to our product portfolio you will be able to view it at-a-glance instead of having to rummage through each subcategory.
In other news, there's a decent probability that The Motor Pool web site will be configured for mobile phone transactions within the not-too-distant future. We hear murmurings from our web hosting solution that they are working on software that will make this possible sometime down-the-road, although there's no hard-and-fast date in the offing. We're not certain how many customers would be likely to purchase an item from us through their mobile device, but its comforting to know that this type of technology is being developed to make "anywhere, anytime" purchasing decisions a coming event...[posted 6/29/2009]

Available in three different patterns (tri-color Normandy scheme, DAK sand, and whitewashed winter camo) the new troop carriers come with two handsomely sculpted figures. Moreover, three figure booster packs are available for each of the three troop-carriers, which are posed in the jumping position to signify that they are disembarking the vehicle and readying for battle. Entertainment News: HBO's "The Pacific" Set to Storm Households in 2010
If you're a collector of diecast military memorabilia then odds on you're also a fan of HBO's long-running mini series "Band of Brothers". Based on the Stephen Ambrose retelling of the exploits of Easy Company, 508th Airborne Regiment, 101st Airborne ("Screaming Eagles"), the gritty multi-installment World War II series has garnered many awards over the years and can still be found among the top DVD purchases. Happily, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg have collaborated once again ("Saving Private Ryan") to produce "The Pacific", a similarly engineered mini series which focuses on the exploits of a US Marine detachment in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during the cataclysmic Second World War. Rumored to cost in excess of $200m, the series has been talked about for some time, and will no doubt help to spark a resurgence in World War II collectibles. HBO has cobbled together a trailer to whet everyone's appetite until the series, set to air some time in 2010, hits the air waves on its own cable network. Dragon Screams, "Panzers Vorwarts!"
Looking to maintain momentum and add a little spice to their new series of budget-minded armor, Dragon today announced their inaugural 1:72 scale Panther tank in their Dragon Armor Value series. Based upon a tank serving with the 1.SS Panzer Division in France during the summer of 1944 (DRR62005), their first Panther will no doubt be snapped up by collectors world over since many of their original 1:72 scale Panthers are becoming harder and harder to find and needless to say more valuable on the collector circuit. Also unveiled today was their first ever King Tiger with a Henschel turret for the Value Armor series, whose history shows it was attached to 1./s.Pz.Abt. Feldhernhalle, then deployed to defend Hungary during the closing stages of WWII (DRR62007). The Motor Pool: New Newsletter Mailing Format
We believe that its vital to keep our growing audience in the know when it comes to new product listings, upcoming releases, new arrivals and news pieces. We also recognize that our current newsletter format has an excessive amount of programming code within it which is preventing some people from opening and perhaps reading our communiques. So, beginning in June, we will be sending out the first pairing of newsletters which are designed to work in conjunction with one another. The first newsletter will contain the usual information as it pertains to news, upcoming releases and new arrivals. The second will contain any new product listings we've incorporated into our site, so customers need not hunt through each subcategory to find the latest items. Other information may be contained within the second newsletter, including any structural changes to our site, and, quite possibly, pricing comparisons. We realize this is a lot of information to digest but our philosophy has always been to keep our clientele informed on the latest trends and changes to our ever growing market segment...[posted 6/7/2009]
Hobby Master Continues to Impress
In an era where countless repaints seems to be the norm, Hobby Master is one of only a handful of modelmakers that are continuing to invest in new tooling. Along with the recently announced Harrrier jump jet comes news that a 1:72 scale Mitisubishi F-2 jet fighter (HA2701) will also be produced. Based upon and resembling the American-made F-16, the F-2 is larger and therefore capable of carrying more ordnance into battle, similar in concept to the F/A-18 Hornet and F/A-18E Super Hornet weapons platform progression. Bearing Japanese markets and scheduled for a September ship, the F-2 should become an instant hit amongst the pan-Asian aviation crowd as well as high-tech aficionadoes around the globe.....[posted 5/29/2009]

Designed to look like veteran actor Tom Cruise, complete with the mole on his cheek, the figurine will come with several fingers missing from one hand, an amputated arm, and even an eye patch, thus showing him as he looked prior to his bomb assasination plot in July 1944.

The Motor Pool: The Next Look Ahead
We relish this time of year cause it gives us a chance to decompress and take stock of the year ahead. As you've no doubt noticed, we're closing up for vacation towards the end of May and into the first week of June, getting out of Dodge to splash on some sun tan lotion and hoist a few mixed drinks (or is it the other way around?). Anyway, before we head out, we thought it might be a good idea to clue you in to what's ahead for us during the second half of 2009.
For openers, we're finally getting around to building out the four "boutiques" located across the top of our Nav Bar. This will give you easy access into a number of our lines and products without having to constantly play with our left hand Navigation Menu. Second, you may have noticed that our newsletters are getting bigger and more interactive, which will continue as we move forward into the all-important holiday selling season. Next, we're adding even more lines to our Product Portfolio, among them Witty Wings, JSI, Soldier City and a few others, while constantly fleshing out our existing lines. We're firm believers in monitored growth, testing out subcategories before jumping in the deep end and having to close out merchandise should sales not pan out. Anyway, we have a few other tricks up our sleeve which we cant discuss as yet, but will become apparent upon our return in mid June. Have fun this summer and make sure to spend time with your family in the months ahead...[posted 5/11/2009]

New Product Range: Dragon Armor Value Plus Series
Its no secret Dragon's critically acclaimed Dragon Armor series has been steadily inching up in cost, in some instances nearing a mind-boggling $30 price point. While there will always be an audience for the original series, Dragon took an important step by offering a new product range aimed at the budget-minded consumer. As far as we can tell, the new series will be every bit as good as its original cousin, however, the vehicles will now be packaged in an open window display box, meaning the company is doing away with the acrylic display case to reduce costs. It also appears as if the company is offering some new repaints instead of simply taking existing vehicles and nestling them in a repackaged format. Frankly, we applaud the manufacturer's effort to move the series forward in today's economic climate and believe that with the lower retail price points new blood will be drawn into the hobby. Developed by Republic Aviation, the same makers of the Thunderbolt, Thunderstreak and Thunderjet combat aircraft, the Thunderchief was quite literally the workhorse of the USAF during the early portion of the Vietnam Conflict, capable of carrying twice the bombload of the F-100 Super Sabre. The first F-105D "Thud" (#HA2501) is now available for pre-order, and we believe this model could easily become their best-selling plane of 2009...[posted 3/12/2009]
Military History: Who's Driving The Plane?
I used to think it strange that modelmakers would offer a diecast metal rendition of the De Havilland Mosquito, a plane made largely of plywood. Seemed odd from my vantagepoint until I read this month's Popular Mechanics magazine, which shed light on the flight testing of the Northrop Grumman X-47B, an unmanned strike aircraft designed to fly off the deck of an aircraft carrier. The X-47B's sea trials on a carrier are slated to occur in late 2011, and if all goes according to plan, production aircraft will likely follow suit, with the goal of replacing the fleet of aging F/A-18 still in service.
Now here's the rub. As an aviation enthusiast and collector of replica combat aircraft, would you be inclined to purchase a model based upon an unmanned aircraft? Granted, there have been models of drones and war weary aircraft offered in the past, but these have largely come at the tail end of the development cycle for an actual production aircraft, such as a F-4 Phantom II or B-17 Flying Fortress, when all of the more popular castings were already made. But with the pilot removed from the outset for both the X-47A and B models, somehow I wonder if collectors would poo-poo the idea of purchasing an aircraft replica bereft of its driver. Food for thought as we move further into the second century of manned flight...[posted 3/10/2009]
Century Wings Hangs More Iron Bombs on Its A-7 Corsair
Its no secret that legions of Century Wings supporters would like to see the manufacturer offer some USAF replicas to sit alongside their USN counterparts. Always one to listen to their fans, the manufacturer has indicated that they plan to offer their first ever A-7D Corsair II attack aircraft, one attached to a USAF squadron then deployed to Thailand during the latter stages of the Vietnam Conflict. Painted in a darkened southeast Asian camouflage scheme and adorned in USAF markings, their newest Corsair has yet to be tagged with an SKU number or price, but will no doubt be fully identified very soon...[posted 3/10/2009]
The Collectors Showcase Takes the Point
Many military enthusiasts dont realize that a good portion of the German war machine was made up of captured vehicles and weapons produced by a number of allied nations. In the case of the Italian-built Autoblinda AB 43, this four-wheeled armored car was used extensively by the Wehrmacht to supplement their reconnaissance arm, since recon teams were oftentimes the first units to come in contact with enemy formations on a mobile battlefield. So, instead of offering an Italian decorated AB 43, The Collectors Showcase has opted to come out with three different German esconced vehicles, one for the DAK, another operating in Normandy and a third serving with a Wehrmacht unit during the Battle of the Bulge. Each vehicle comes with three figures, and, as you might expect, features fully detailed interior compartments and stunningly realistic paint schemes. Look for the new sets to come out sometime in April...[posted 3/10/2009]
The Collectors Showcase Washing of the Spears
The invasion and subsequent subjugation of the Zulu nation by the British Empire is perhaps one of the most celebrated campaigns of the nineteenth century, showing how a small but professionally led force could take on a native army much larger in size and scope. Taking its cue from history, The Collectors Showcase has decided to pay homage to the opening action of the war by releasing a set of figures based upon the slaughter at the slopes of Mount Isandlwana. Crafted in 1:30 scale and hand painted to exacting standards, the Zulu War series will no doubt become an eagerly sought after miniature set when it comes out this spring and will likely be expanded to include the ensuing Battle at Rorke's Drift...[posted 3/9/2009]
Yat Ming Blares "Hail to the Chief"
When it comes to Americana, few icons stand out as much as the home grown automobile, particularly if they're connected to the US presidency. In the case of Yat Ming, this longtime player in the diecast replica market has steadily cobbled together a pantheon of presidential parade limousines, beginning with a 1938 Lincoln all the way up to George Walker Bush's 2005 uparmored Cadillac. Solidly built and replete with opening doors, flags and chrome appointments, these hefty 1:18 scale parade limousines are being offered at the incredible price of $49.99 apiece, making them affordable tributes to the presidential conveyances, several of which have become etched into our collective conciousness through historical events...[posted 3/8/2009]

GMP Diecast: "The 'Crow's' Encore Performance"
From time to time we go into the marketplace to unearth jewels that may have been lost but not forgotten. Recently, we managed to locate several pieces of the highly sought after 'Old Crow' P-51D from GMP Diecast - yep, the one flown by WWII ace Clarence "Bud" Anderson. Needless to say, we had to pay a premium for these gems, which we figure will sit in several curio cabinets in short time. Now, here's the rub. We are pricing these handful of warbirds on a sliding scale based upon sales velocity. So, the second piece will sell for more than the first, the third slightly more, and finally the coveted last piece. On the plus side, these incredibly rare birds will qualify for the current sales promotion as well as get free UPS ground shipping. Think it over, but not for too long...[posted 2/26/2009]
Dragon Takes Aim at the 1:6 Scale Competition
Even though it isn't there first ever Pak38 offered up to the 1:6 scale hobbyist, it may be their most compelling. Dragon, easily the most prolific maker of 1:6 scale figures and paraphenalia, is set to release an all-new rendition of the German PaK38 anti-tank gun, this time around bundled with a gunner figure (DRF70705). Dubbed Manfred Weller and hailing from the 2.SS Panzer Grenadier Division, this all-new set is certainly a worthy addition to anyone's 1:6 scale collection, given the price hike being passed along for some other recently introduced figures. Keep in mind the original Pak sold for upwards of $159.99, so for $30 more you get a new paint scheme plus a figure thrown in ...[posted 2/25/2009]
Easy Model Churns Up the Early War Diecast Battlefield
Nowadays, most makers of World War II military replicas seem to concentrate on the latter half of the war, when the Germans were fielding heavier tanks and the Allies were producing weapons to stand up to them. Its therefore refreshing to see at least one model maker not turn a blind eye to the opening campaigns of the Second World War and the weaponry employed in the early battles.
That said, Easy Model is looking to produce a replica of the famed French Char B-1bis heavy tank, a weapon that was purportedly built to stand toe-to-toe against the German PzKpfw II and III, yet was significantly outclassed once the first shots were fired. Images for the three replicas are expected momentarily and we anticipate a March ship, so it behooves anyone interested in obtaining these models to submit their orders as soon as possible...[posted 2/25/2009]

Minichamps Goes Off Roading
First announced some two years ago, Minichamps has finally begun shipping out their 1934 Mercedes G4 parade limousine to its dealer network. Painted in grey with black fenders and a blackened interior, this six-wheeled, open-topped vehicle was capable of travelling off-road, thus making it one of the first cars capable of handling rough terrain as well as blacktop surfaces. Also in the hoard were several Vincent Black Shadows and Brough Superiors, two replica classics that took the hobby by storm in 2008 when they were first released. Originally introduced in 2007, and snatched up by collectors world over literally overnight, the "Final Battle" Wittmann tank is based upon his final mount, which was destroyed at Cintheaux, France in the later summer of 1944. According to the manufacturer, only 50 fifty vehicles will be shipped into the North American marketplace, offered, once again, at their original issue price of just $449.99. Armour Collection Takes Its Cue from the JSF
We had been under the impression that Armour Collection was going to offer a F-111 Aardvark for 2009. However, when the 2009 catalog arrived, no mention was made of the "Aardvark", and in its stead, the Company plans to introduce a 1:48 scale replica of the USAF F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. Dubbed the Lightning II, the Armour Collection replica (B11F000) is slated to take wing in March, and looks to be the first pre-assembled model portraying the soon-to-be made operational strike aircraft available in diecast form.
On the downside, the F-35 looks to be the only new aircraft tooling for 2009, unless an addendum is in the making. Loads of repaints of other existing airframes will be offered, including a PBY "Black Cat", along with their first ever P-51A and P-51B Mustang variants...[posted 2/7/2009]

In the 1:32 scale sector, collectors will be enticed with both a Russian KV-1 heavy tank and an early war StuG III assault gun with a short-barelled gun. Also under development is a King Tiger Ausf. A heavy tank with a Porsche turret, along with the reintroduction of their Sd. Kfz. 251/1 half-track in winter white and US M1A1 Abrams tank in desert sand.
In the smaller scale 1:72 scale market, military enthusiasts will finally get a GMC 2-1/2 ton truck, Panther Ausf. G medium tank, and Elefant tank destroyer. Likely, each of these will be made available at a later date in deluxe sets.
Finally, if you were shut out of the 1:16 scale Tiger I promotion then you'll be happy to learn that the manufacturer has uncovered a cache of their Michael Wittmann Final Battle tank, which portrays his mount used at the battle of Cintheuax, France in mid-1944. In other news, images were also supplied for their soon-to-be-released MiG 15 in captured US markings, based upon the plane flown by a defecting North Korean pilot in late 1953 and put through its paces by test pilot Tom Collins (HA2403)...[posted 12/12/2008]
SkyMax Models Limited Edition and Autographed "Mike" Granat F8F Bearcat
Perhaps it was appropriate that on the 67th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor we were fortunate enough to announce one of our boldest initiatives yet. Sometime in early 2009, we plan to offer a limited edition, autographed version of SkyMax Models soon-to-be-released replica of Lieutenant Commander Mike Granat's USN (ret) F8F Bearcat, "Felix the Cat". We've posted this item in our SkyMax Models section which is appended with a short discussion by Lt. Cdr. Granat offering his impressions and insight into this world famous aircraft. Each box will be autographed by the pilot and numbered. Frankly, we aren't certain just yet as to how many autographed replicas we plan to offer, which will probably number between 100-250, based upon worldwide consumer demand. We strongly recommend pre-ordering this item as soon as possible since we need to establish a production number before the holidays. Please note that we are asking the pilot to sign and number the outer box of the replica, not the aircraft.
We will also be conducting an in-depth interview with Lt. Cdr. Granat, who flew many of the most important naval aircraft of World War II and beyond, including the F4F Wildcat, F6F Hellcat, F7F Tigercat, F9F Panther & Cougar and the UF-1 Albatross. We hope to have the interview posted to coincide with the release of the autographed replica...[posted 12/7/2008]
Armour Collection: Heavy Metal in 2009
Contrary to popular belief, Armour Collection will continue to retain diecast metal as its principal building block for their combat aircraft. Although the company is still acting coy concerning their 2009 lineup, they will reportedly announce their new product range at the end of December, likely the week after Christmas. Rumors continue to circulate that the new range will include a F-111 Aardvark fighter-bomber, a key Cold War bulwark against a then hostile eastern European hegemony from the late 60's through the early 90's. If true, its not clear if the Armour Collection replica will feature variable geometry wings, or other articulating control surfaces common among some of their competitors. In any event, their highly anticipated 2009 catalog will purportedly be available shortly, no doubt an excellent read during the cold winter months just ahead.....[posted 12/3/2008]

Tamiya Barks, "Rommel, you magnificent bastard. I read your book!"
Quiet for some time, Tamiya seems to be back with a vengeance, if pre-Tamiya Fair rumors are true. Long available as a kit, Tamiya will soon be offering a 1:48 scale, pre-assembled replica of the German Sd. Kfz. 250/3 light command half-track used by Erwin Rommel in the hot desert sands of North Africa (TAM26536). Other 1:48 scale, pre-assembled builds are reportedly in the works, including US M8 and M20 armored cars, a GMC 2-1/2 ton truck, a German Steyr Type 1500 A/01 utility car and a Kommandeurwagen, used to ferry high ranking dignitiaries to and fro. Similarly, a 1:48 scale Fieseler Storch liason aircraft is due out for the holidays, certainly a welcome addition to anyone's aircraft collection.....[posted 11/21/2008]
IXO Models Ponders, "One if By Land, Two if By Sea?"
Even though the first delivery of their 1:144 scale bomber line has been delayed until January, that hasn't stopped IXO Models from stoking the fires and unveiling two more images of their upcoming aircraft. The first multi-engined aircraft is a German Dornier Do-217E medium bomber, designed from scratch as a replacement for the venerable Dornier Do 17 bomber. The second aircraft shown for the first time is a US Consolidated PBY flying boat, painted in an early war olive green pattern. As an aside, it seems strange that the manufacturer should elect to go with this pattern for the PBY as opposed to a 'Black Cat' or sky blue naval variant, perhaps two more popular schemes. In any event, the two new machines will undoubtedly meet with great fanfare when they finally do get released, and helps keep the fires burning until the first wave of planes soar overhead....[posted 11/18/2008]

Hobby Master Catches Hell and is Proud of It!
Sure, it's a play on words, but Hobby Master has quickly become the turn to company that is willing to produce some of the less obscure aircraft and liveries in the military market. For instance, when it comes to World War II, the manufacturer has annouced a third pattern in their upcoming Curtiss SB2C Helldiver dive-bomber series (HA2203), this one based on a plane embarked upon the USS Bunker Hill. Fast forwarding to the Vietnam War, the company intends to offer a Royal Australian Air Force F-4E Phantom fighter-bomber (HA1908), awash in a dark southeast asia camouflage pattern. And, if that isn't enough, they're toying with a Taiwanese Mirage 2000-5 jet fighter, handsomely adorned in a blue-on-blue paint scheme (HA1609). Other aircraft are also in the mix, all scheduled for an early 2009 release...[posted 11/16/2008]
Hobby Master Takes the Lead
It takes a certain measure of courage to try something new when you could just as easily play it safe by hanging back with the tried-and-true. In the case of Hobby Master, the company is sticking its neck out by offering a pair of diminutive armored fighting vehicles that others might have easily ignored. Due out in January, the first vehicle is a US-built M8 light armored car (HG3801) while the second, a derivative of the M8, will be an M20 armored car (HG3802). Offered in the standard olive drab pattern of the World War II era US Army, these small but important players in mid-twentieth century mobile warfare will likely be greeted with great fanfare when they usher in the New Year....[posted 11/14/2008]
Dragon Sets its Sights on a New Subject
Just when it seemed like Dragon was slowing down their tank production in the face of growing competition comes word that they're finally tackling a new subject: the dreaded Panzer IV medium tank. Due out some time in December, their first foray will replicate an Ausf. G model, which served with distinction with the 3.SS Panzer Grenadier Division "Totenkopf" (DRA60187). Death of the Red Baron
Long a legend in the aviation world, Manfred von Richtoffen's passing has become an enigma that has still to be solved. Be that as it may, Frontline Figures has decided to pay homage to 'The Red Baron' by introducing a unique diorama that shows the famed airman just minutes after he crash landed during the latter stages of World War I. Produced in 1:32 scale and mounted atop a handsome wooden base, the vignette shows the Baron lying prostrate on his back alongside his smashed Albatross, as several Australian soldiers rummage through his aircraft for souvenirs. Intended to be made available just after Thanksgiving, we're offering this powerful statement to the passing of this legend for only $179.99, $199.99 if you wait until its released. No aviation collection would be complete without some sort of mention of the top scoring ace of World War I. IXO Models Starts Up Their Outboard Engines
After several false starts, it appears as if IXO Models are weeks away from going through their final flight check and making their range of 1:144 scale bombers available in North America. According to our distributor, six aircraft have made the November cut, including the C-54 troop transport, Ju 88 medium bomber, Mitsubishi Betty bomber, Petlyakov Pe 8 heavy bomber, BR 20 Cicogna medium bomber, as well as their 1:72 scale rendition of the AR-234 jet bomber. The next batch of bombers to make muster are being spaced out for a January/ February release, although this could slide by a few weeks.
On the ground, our distributor maintains that their diecast military vehicles will begin appearing in early 2009, although no word as yet concerning their proposed order and product type has been disseminated. News concerning the lineup might surface at the upcoming IHobby Expo.
Update: Our distributor has informed us that their shipment of IXO Models aircraft have been delayed until January.
