Hi!
Welcome, and thank you, to everyone visiting! Much has happened since I originally set up this page. My son got married and has supplied us with two wonderful grandsons; the oldest now 6 years old and in school and the youngest just turned 5 years old! While my son introduced me to card collecting again when he was young, my grandsons have refreshed my passion for Hot Wheel cars (and that recently morphed into Greenlights)! Much like my card collection - which Mom threw out in 1977 when we moved into a bigger home - I lost my extensive Hot Wheel original redline collection (every car from 1968-1970) when my younger brother sold them all for pennies on the dollar at one of our pre-moving garage sales! Moving to that new house cost me dearly!
Most of the auctions I conduct involve graded cards. I use SCD Authentic almost exclusively to grade my cards. I have found them to have VERY high standards for grading (no qualifiers, no off-center 10's) unlike some of my findings involving PSA or BGS. If Larry Fritsch - one of our hobby's "founding fathers" - trusts SCD to accurately & fairly grade his '52 Mantle RC along with his vast collection of vintage '50's cards...that's a good enough testimonial for me! Not to mention the recent T206 find that SCD is now in the process of grading. Why didn't these collectors choose PSA or Beckett?? SCD are the people who publish our "hobby Bible", Sports Collectors Digest as well as Tuff Stuff Magazine. They've been associated with the card collecting hobby from the very early stages! Cards graded by SCD are every bit, if not more, accurately graded than PSA or BGS graded cards. You'll never find an SCD graded 10 with a qualifier that it's off-center! If it's off-center...IT'S NOT A 10, is it? Have you looked closely at some of these BCCG 10's out there??? These cards are lowering the perception of what a 10 GEM MINT card is!! Mediocrity is slowly creeping into the grading aspect of our hobby. Use SCD Authentic's sevice and find out for yourself - don't take my word for it. I guess what I'm mostly trying to say is...if you're bidding on an SCD 10 rookie card, you can rest assured it is truly GEM MINT because of SCD's high, strict standards for quality and their vast experience & guidance given to collectors within our hobby for over 20 years. This isn't a statement I'm making because I disagreed with a grade PSA or BGS issued to one of my cards...this is just my personal observations from my dealing with these three companies and comparing various cards. It seems others are now finding out the same thing, judging from the collectors letters to SCD and e-mails I have received from people. In my humble opinion, SCD is superior in quality and experience within the hobby and service! (Can you tell I feel very strongly about this?).
I don't know if I'll ever get into selling my diecast collection since "my boys" really like them. I'll probably pass the collection down to them. My collection is concentrated on '67 Camaros, '69 Camaros, Heavy Chevys, '56 Ford Panel & Pickup trucks, 3-Window '34's, Hiway Haulers, Bone Shakers, redlines, '30's era cars and muscle cars. I try to collect one carded and one loose version of each. I have duplicated my original redline collection as closely as possible. I remodeled our basement a year ago to allow for more display of my vast diecast collection and original Hot Wheels advertisements.
Interests
I think the buyers & sellers I've dealt with appreciate the way I do business - check out my feedback. I believe in honesty and treating other people the way I like being treated... and I'm very passionate about that! As you may be able to tell from my user name, I a big fan of the Cincinnati Reds. I'm also a huge fan of the Columbus Blue Jackets; the Boston Celtics and (gulp!) the Cincinnati Bengals (see, it has been awhile since I originally wrote this. They've improved tremendously this season). I've been collecting cards off & on since 1971 - baseball cards regularly since the mid 80's, basketball cards for a few years during the mid-90's and just recently started (again) with hockey. The only thing I collect at the present time are cards of current and ex-Cincinnati Reds and Columbus baseball players, Blue Jackets cards and Hot Wheels. I am a card carrying member of the Hot Wheels Collectors club and Greenlight's Under The Hood club. I also like to conduct trades for particular Hot Wheels I'm interested in or, sometimes, just to help someone else out with that special car they've gotta have!
