I am a radio collector. Not just any old radio, but those that used the advertizing slogan "There is nothing finer than a Stromberg Carlson." Sometimes deemed by collectors as the "Rolls Royce of Radio"---after having been in the car hobby as well as radio hobby for some years, I think that truly E.H. Scott was the Rolls Royce, and Stromberg was the Packard of Radio. High quality, targeted at the "Carriage Trade" and a little on the conservative side--but willing to take big styling risks. Some of the finest most beautiful radios of the Golden Age--1925 to 1939 came out of Stromberg's Rochester, NY plant. I have been collecting them for over thirty years, exclusively. Perhaps in another life, I will finally produce a history of the company, as my many many radio friends have asked over the years. In the meantime, I am divesting myself of much of my collection, due to lifestyle changes, age, and events. Some collectors remember me from the Washington, DC area (miss the old Mid-Atlantic Radio Club) or the Chicago area (miss the Antique Radio Club of Illinois, and Elgin in the good old days). Now I reside in the San Francisco Bay Area.
What else am I after?
I started out in this madness with Ham Radio age 11. If you own any of the 70 series or 700 series, or a Model 180 Stromberg that you would like to trade or sell, please email me. UPDATE: I have disposed of most of my collection of communications receivers; ---I regret to say this after a lifetime in the field.
As to ebay madness, I have been on for a good while. My feedback is excellent. By and large this is a hobby, not a business. I try hard to treat people fair and square, as my feedback shows.
Ok, enough of that. Now, you radio collectors out there looking for free Stromberg Carlson info, here is a small list. Yes, I am selling some high end Stromberg gear---when its gone its gone. There will be no more. Next, I do not have any replacement gears for the Treasure Chests. Try Boston Gear. Do the research. Also, I do not have any dial glasses for sale. I will be selling some more early Stromberg radios such as the 700 series (no 744, don't ask), some of the 600 series, and some odds and ends of rare factory literature and advertising. Stay tuned. I am continuing disposing of much of my Stromberg collection. Email for details. Remember, its a hobby, its supposed to be fun. Lastly, radiowise, Russ Worthy, wherever you are, you are loved.
But, lo, I am also an Italian bike nut. Certified. Many year passion for Ducati, Laverda, and Moto Guzzi. Ride modern stuff, collect the groovy older stuff. Laverda a special passion---orange. Been riding since 1964, a different world.
Lastly, since this is my page, I say what I like. A certain bozo posted my first negative feedback recently, after all these years on Ebay. He bought a ten dollar comic book from my childhood from me and right after paying sent an abusive email rant that boiled down to claiming I did not know what I was doing re the listed timeframe of the comic. I simply refunded his money right there---nickel and dime stuff ain't worth such agony folks, life is too short as it is. He got irate. I do not care. I follow the golden rule here. Like as not.
