SDF Public Access UNIX System, INC 501(c)(7)

This account is mainly used to auction off surplus equipment that the SDF Public Access UNIX System, a non-profit membership 501(c)(7) organisation, has owned and used over the years. Occasionally this account is also used by the person typing this, Stephen Jones, to auction off personal affects, most of which the funds go immediately into SDF. 		 

I've been using ebay for a number of years. Prior to that I sold items on USENET groups going back to 1991. (You can check google and search 'sdf.lonestar.org' under 'news' for flash backs). Commercialism was happening very quickly from the mid 90s on, so something like ebay was bound to show up. I have mixed feelings about using it. The best words of advice I can give you is to please not be over trusting of people who use ebay. And also, please be very careful when dealing with people in the third world (or people who live in the third world and ask money be sent to the UK or NY or Spain). That being said, also be careful of people in your own state or country. If something shady seems to be in the works, at least get a phone number and a land address. In most cases when you're dealing with an ebay or paypal thief, they won't even grant you that. You might think it sad or funny, but my first (and second, and third) experience in getting ripped off online occured via ebay after year 2000 .. not in the 10 years prior to that of dealing with USENET 'marketplace' newsgroups.
