The Story of Fontanini
Fontanini began as a cottage industry in Bagni de Lucca, Italy. Nearly a century later, its hand-painted Nativities grace the Vatican, international cathedrals, and Hollywood films. The House of Fontanini researches the history of the villages and townspeople as they would have been during the birth of Christ. Using this knowledge, the master sculptor, Elio Simonetti, produces a clay design and forms the mold. From these molds, each figure is cast in polymer. It is this remarkable medium, polymer, that allows the figure to resist breakage yet faithfully reproduces the exquisite detail of the original design. These figures are then handpainted producing unique pieces as no two figures are exactly alike.
What does the term 5" Collection mean? Is that the actual size of the piece? The term 5" Collection means the pieces are scaled as part of the Fontanini 5" Nativity Collection. Fontanini makes many different sized Nativity collections and bases the name off of the height of St. Joseph. So, pieces that are part of the Fontanini 5" Collection will vary in height but are in scale with a 5" tall St. Joseph. The Collection name does not mean that those are the actual dimensions of a given piece. It means that it is in scale---similar to railroad miniatures in the HO scale, for example. You know that if you buy all your Nativity pieces in the same scale (i.e. 5" Collection) then all your pieces will coordinate together.Yes, we offer Shipping/Handling/Insurance (S/H/I) discounts to save you $$$ when buying multiple items from us.
How does this work? Your S/H/I discount is figured by charging the highest shipping cost for the first item and $2.49 for each additional item. EXAMPLE: You purchase five items with S/H/I costs listed as $4.99, $7.99, $5.99, $5.99, and $5.99. Once, the discount is applied, your S/H/I costs would be $7.99 + $2.49 + $2.49 + $2.49 +2.49. Saving you $13.00!
