Hi! Thanks for sticking your head in the door. My name's Leslie and I am a serious vintage linen junkie! It's the old Ebay story; I started collecting, got too much, and then started selling. I still collect vintage linens. My own collection tops 300 cloths!
I like to give my buyers the kind of experience I would like to receive: an item that's well-described and clearly photographed so you know exactly what you're bidding on. And once you've purchased your item, you'll receive it quickly, cleaned and pressed.
One of my great joys is in preparing a linen for sale. Never in a million years would I ever have thought I would type those words, but for some reason, it's true! I love the long, slow-process of bringing linens back to life. I hand wash almost everything prior to listing it. If it's mint with its original paper tag, I won't wash it. I leave that up to the new owner. Otherwise, I wash it and line dry it in the almost year-round Southern California sun. I iron everything but I won't starch it. Sure, it might look nicer starched, but starch over a long time can damage these older pieces. And I don't want to take any chances. I examine every piece as closely as possible, looking for ever flaw that there might be. And I'll tell you about it, too. I don't want you getting something in the mail and thinking "Sheesh, this isn't the way she described it." A lot of times, it probably seems that I overstate flaws, but I want to make sure that you know about everything, every little worn spot, dye flaw, marks, spots, tears, and, of course, holes.
I started Uncle Bunk's Junk in the spring of 2004 and then changed the name to Uncle Bunk's Trunk in 2007. My husband kept bugging me, "you don't sell junk. You shouldn't have that in the title of your business." Finally I gave in because he's right. I treasure every item I sell and what started as a self-deprecating, silly name started to bug me, too. So no more misleading junk!
But my love for vintage linens started much earlier than the business. It really all started when my mother offered me "her old table". "Her old table" is a square four top wooden table with three matching chairs. It used to sit in our basement when I was a little girl and we would play games on it, paint our pictures on it, even bake in our Easy Bake Oven on it! What I hadn't realized was that prior to it being a little girls' play table, it had been my grandmother's. She had kept it out on her porch for many years and prior to that, it had been her kitchen table in the early 1940's. When I got the table, I didn't have a tablecloth that fit it, so I started looking on ebay for one. And it was then that I discovered vintage tablecloths. There were so many beautiful pieces to choose from that I soon began buying more than one. Before you knew it I was a collector and then, eventually, a seller. Most of the photographs in my listings are taken on my grandmother's table.
Uncle Bunk was my grandmother's uncle. He was nicknamed Bunk (his real name was Lewis) because "everything he said was pure bunkum!" He was a great story teller and a sweet guy and I loved him very much. I like to remember him in my little ebay venture.
While some of the things we sell are from my personal collection, most are things we've acquired at flea markets, estate sales, wherever we can find beautiful things. 'We' are my husband, John, and myself. My husband has became a full time partner in Uncle Bunk's Junk and helps out whenever he can.
When we're not working for the Unc, both John and I are professional actors working in Los Angeles. We're not famous, but are among the rank and file of actors who make their living working in film, TV, and radio. John is currently the host of Discovery Home's Tailgate Party and I recently did an episode of Joan of Arcadia and had a small part in Something's Gotta Give.
I hope you'll visit us often - you never know what fantastic vintage linen has come our way! If you're interested in linens and other kinds of vintage items, please visit my friend Jenn's amazing seller's page for hollyhockfarm. See the link below. She's always coming across the most lovely and, oftentimes, unusual vintage pieces; frankly, I don't know how she does it!
Also, I'm a proud member of the Vintage Tablecloth Lover's Club. If you love vintage linens, you owe it to yourself to check out this website. Even without joining, there's a lot of great info accessible to everyone on the public pages.
We hope you enjoy shopping with Uncle Bunk because the entire venture has been a labor of love. Y'all come back now, ya hear?
