US PATENT MODEL FOUNDATION United States Patent Model Foundation is a nonprofit organization with two main programs. The first is its ekindle the Spiritcampaign which focuses on 19th century inventiveness. The Foundation has the largest collection of original patent models which are the actual models submitted to the U.S. Patent Office circa 1836-1880. During that brief period in American history, every inventor was required to submit a model of his or her invention in order to obtain a patent. The Foundation hopes to place its collections primarily with museums and institutions that will display them for public enjoyment and help inspire current generations of Americans by recalling the inventive energy of our nation earliest inventors. It also hopes to offer displays to schools to stimulate innovation in our youngest inventors. The second program of the Foundation is its national INVENT AMERICA! education program and student invention competition. INVENT AMERICA! helps children in grades K-8 to develop critical and creative thinking skills by inventing their own solutions to everyday problems. Inventing is an exciting education tool, integrating the curriculum and offering youngsters a chance to explore their creativity while developing problem solving skills so vital in today rapidly changing high-tech world. Each year the program culminates in a national student invention competition that offers awards and recognition to students and their schools. Today, the Foundation is offering a small selection of its patent model collections on eBay to help fund these programs and efforts.
