Welcome eBay
I'm blessed, no doubt about it! Survived Katrina safe and sound with this masterpiece ship kit collection. Everyone of these kits is even more special now, in more ways than one. Survived Betsy as an 8 year old too in flooded Gentilly and this one was worse. My home is in Metairie where it did not flood."Vacajun" is pronounced "Vuh Kay John", and is a slur of "vacation". Add Wayne and you get "Vacajunwayne". btw "The Duke" is one of my movie heroes. I've been an eBay member since July 20, 2003, in commemoration of the first moon landing. Somewhere in my mind the two events are similar firsts.
Four uncles are WW2 veterans: a 1st. Lt. USMC pilot in Squadron 443 and USMC boxing champion, an Army medic in Normandy, overrun in a counter attack then hidden by the French underground before rejoining his unit to liberate Paris, another was a Captain, armored divison in Europe and a surviving USN (ARM) radioman/gunner in squadrons; VS52, VS62, VB110, VB111 plus PV Ventura duty around Truk. Founding member of the National WW2 Museum in New Orleans.
Hobbies
Model ship building/collecting:Built my first model (Frankenstein) as an eight year old and have respected the craft ever since. My first ship kit was the Revell Buckley. It was a challenge for me (age 9) and when finished, I had something to admire. From that moment forward I knew I was a ship modeler. Naval architecture intrigues me. From 1966 to about 1968 I had amassed a fleet of over a hundred uniques models. Yeah, my room as a ten year old was a ship museum.
Around this time the space program was primetime. Naturally I got into model spacecraft. Built all the different type spacecraft, rockets and satellites. My favorite spacecraft model is the Revell Gemini capsule in 1:24. Again, there is something appealing about it.
Research is one of the fun aspects of modeling. To that end my collection of books and videos on the subjects continues to grow, thanks to eBay.
