Welcome to IXSTITCH AND MORE!
My husband and I moved to Austin, Texas a few years ago (back when property in California was an easy sale!) I lived most of my life in California but always wished to see more of the country and so when the opportunity arose with my husband's work - we grabbed the chance to finally move.
I have been a member of Ebay since it's early AuctionWeb days. I finally joined under my own account in May 1997 - though I had been buying under my husband's account for months (what a computer nerd - he joined back in 1996.) I mainly got my own account so I wouldn't have to "account" for my purchases.
I am a reader, a needleworker, a cook, a jigsaw puzzle fan, a crocheter, and a knitter. I've always loved to be challenged by new hobbies - though my husband points out that
I am almost always manipulating fiber with some sort of tool. Back before 9/11, I was pretty scary on my thrice weekly airflights - I rerooted doll heads with
those five inch needles - women were always interested and wanted to give it a try - men took one look and moved if possible - or leaned over until they
were bent double into the aisle. At least that gave me more elbow room to yank that hair into place! One day when I grow up, I hope to learn how to quilt!
My love affair with reading started very young - I remember I was in third grade and reading a blurb of Little Women in the back of my older sister's
Reader. I knew I had to read the book - even though my reading skills were just about what you would think an eight year old would have.
Luckily, my sister loved mothering us and spent time helping me with the hard words and showing me how to use a dictionary. By the end of summer
that year, I had worked my way through all of Louisa May Alcott's books and had convinced a very skeptical public librarian that I had the reading
skills to advance into the adult's section of the library. I remember way too many nights spent with a flashlight under my covers - so I could finish
my book. One of the blessings of my life is that I was able to pass my love of reading on to my children.
Cross Stitch is a second love. Back in the early 1980's, when I was pregnant with my first child, I stumbled across a Precious Moments Cross
Stitch Booklet - I think it was the first one. I knew that I had to stitch one of the charts for my child. When I realized that I could customize the
hair color, eye color, and even write my own words, I was hooked. I stitched like mad - not only for my own children but for all my friends. I
thought my local hobby shops had a fantastic selection.... until the internet appeared and I found all sorts of designs - some of my favorites now
include Lynn's Prints, Prairie Schooler, Bent Creek, Mirabilia, Design Works, Joan Elliot, Lanarte.... and on and on and on.
I have accumulated so many items, I know that I must give them up so that others can enjoy and put them to use. In addition to my incredibly
large personal "stash", I also bought the last remaining inventory of a closing local needlework shop. It wasn't a huge purchase, but it did give me a number
of duplicates. This makes it a little easier to "share".
I am also back in school. I am going for a creative writing degree with hopes of writing fiction. I have been reading
for so many years, I felt that there must be stories inside of me waiting to get out. We'll see how it goes! It will be an interesting career for
me as I spent my majority of working years as a contracts manager and negotiator for a major software company. While I wrote a great deal
and ever so precisely - one can't exactly call contract writing "creative" - unless, I suppose, one is a legal nerd.
So, come and enjoy my selections - I try to make the pictures big enough to give you a fun look-see. My books range from nearly new (read
once) to well-loved (but still readable!) I'll keep looking through my "stuff" finding other fun offerings - come back and check frequently as I am
always adding new items!
