Iam a practicing psychotherapist in New York City. History is my advocation. I love it. Iseen to absorb any history I read; the formal academic kind, although some authors, such as Simon Schama and Alistair Horne are literary artists, the acme of their profession, because "good" history can also be an exciting read. I have no interest in historical fiction. I woulld never read the The Da Vinci Code. The movie was a hodge-podge mess. The Virgin Mary is buried under Pei's pyramid at the Louvre. Right, next to Elvis and Jimmy Hoffa.
My interest is in collecting books about various times in european history. I am building a personal library, that I hope to pass on to my children, and their children.
My areas of interest are fairly catholic, but I focus on certain periods of particular interest to me, such as Tudor England, both World Wars, Nazi Germany, Tito and the Paristan movement, the Holocaust, the French Revolution and nineteenth century France. The American Revolution and Civil War. These choices are somewhat governed by the fact that, in some cases, the interest is tied to family history. My father is a World War II veteran. He served in Hodges First U.S. Army. How he ever survived is a mystery. He doesn't talk about it much, so I gleen nuggets from reading Steven Armbrose, etc. You get the idea.
