Music for a Cure is a non-profit organization founded, in 2002, by a few members of Sugar Ray, in remembrance of Ryan Michael Bates who at the age of 16 lost his battle against cancer. After seeing the positive impact music had on Ryan's life we realized that there must be thousands of children just like him who could benefit in the same manner. Music is so deeply imbedded in us that we had to come up with a way in which we could share it with others in order to positively change their lives. Therefore we started Music for a Cure. The joy that the guitars, given by Sugar Ray, provided Ryan is immensurable, and it is from this proof of music's curative properties that our mission stems. Music for a Cure's mission is to bring the healing power of music to critically ill children just like Ryan by providing them with quality musical instruments, supporting music therapists and music therapy programs at local children's hospitals.
