James Charles Kaelin, Jr. is the pioneer of historical multimedia on the internet. Recovering from crippling case of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome that disabled him for a decade, Jim Kaelin began to make historical sound files for his own amusement, to share with others on the net and to give what little he could back to society in 1995, when he discovered that there were so few online. He became thereby the most archived sound digitizer on the internet, beginning when he created NASA's online Apollo 11 sound site, a collection which was quickly "mirrored" by over 100 websites worldwide within weeks of its release. Encouraged by this, he created the EarthStation1.com website as a means by which to resume his duties as a contributing member of society. It immediately became the first and foremost historical sound & image archive on the internet, featuring his original audio, video and image digitations. Based on the website's success, he took the courage of his convictions, volunteered off of disability and made the operation of EarthStation1 his chosen profession. That choice rewarded him with not just financial success, but more importantly, it provided the means by which to pursue, win and keep the love of his life - and since a good woman like that always prefers the man over the money, that fateful decision ultimately resulted in the achievement of those most greatly elusive goals personal success & genuine happiness ;-) .
Especially created to meet the needs of students and teachers worldwide, EarthStation1 gained official
approval for teaching history and media studies by the French, British and Singapore governments, as well as by museums, libraries, archives & hundreds
of schools K-12 to post-graduate world-wide. It has since evolved into a comprehensive multimedia publishing company with primary emphasis on digital
historical media in DVD, CD & CD-Rom formats. Much of its constituent material had never been made available to the public before they were created for
and published by J. C. Kaelin's EarthStation1.com. Literally hundreds of subjects are covered by its media, including Ancient History, American History,
World War I, World War II, 20th Century History, the Cold War, TV/Movie/Radio Broadcasting History, Civil Rights, the Space Program and much more.
Of these, it's the WWII materials that are the "crown jewels" of EarthStation1. In many institutions of learning throughout the US -- and indeed in some
countries the entire nation's educational curriculum -- center around materials produced by EarthStation1. With thousands of pictures & broadcasts from
both sides of the conflict, organized by country, subject and date, and so much more to list, it's become by merit of the love that went into it the foremost WWII Media
publishing site on the net.
The historical multimedia productions featured at EarthStation1.com have been created, remastered and enhanced to provide the highest quality digitations
possible. Great care has been taken to obtain the highest quality original media possible from museums, archives, libraries and private collections
worldwide. Many hours have been spent on some single files, while others have taken weeks or even months to create. The especial results of these
efforts have been the development of a number of digitizing processes - audio, video and imaging - which produce media of superior resolution than those
made using traditional methods.
