Passionate hippies? That's us! We are passionate about everything. Collecting, antiquing, selling, and of course about each other. We married...actually eloped in May 2005 and in January of 2006 I retired from social services to pursue eBay full-time thanks to the support of my fabulous husband. We have a great many things in common, especially our penchant for collecting. I have an affinity toward classic Winnie the Pooh, miniature wheaton bottles, miniatures in general (I have one cabinet stuffed), antique furniture (which there is no more room for), art glass vases, alligators, head & torso statues/figurines, and hammered aluminum items. The wiskeylizard himself collects Nascar, Hot Wheels, any old cars, Universal Monsters, coins, anything to do with the Doors & Jim Morrison, and vintage metal fans! It is such an exciting feeling when you find that one special thing to add to the collection!
Michael was an established buyer on eBay and I had sold in the past but because of work I could never give it the attention it really needed....eBay is a job for me, not a hobby. So, we decided to take a leap of faith and I spend oodles of time, buying, preparing things, and selling in hopes of spreading that special feeling you get when you find the perfect thing to add to your collection. Thanks to so many terrific customers we are doing well and hope to be on eBay for a long time. We try to find unique, unusual, and collectible vintage goods to offer for bids. We list every Saturday evening and there is something for everyone.
A note about Mrs. Wiskeylizard's Mother
Since April of 2008, we were in the process of listing many items from the living estate of my mother. She was very ill and after spending months fixing her home, securing a full-time live-in helper / caretaker...she was no longer able to be maintained in her own home and had to go into a nursing home. She passed on February 6th of this year (2009) and I had the honor of being at my mother's side as she left this world. This has been a heart wrenching time for us, to say the least & we wish we had a bigger house so that we could keep all of her things.
She was 77 years old & grew up during the depression. She had quite an interesting life from racing motorcycles in her early twenties to raising, breeding and showing Dobermans in the 1970s & 80s. As a young woman she played drums in a band, taught dance at the Arthur Murray dance studios, was a cocktail waitress in hot nighclubs in the 40s and 50s in Chi-town. She worked at the gate of Horn, the Ambassador East, and Mr. Kellys where she met & befriended an up an coming young comedian known as Bill Cosby. She has all of his records and 2 personally autographed (these will not be offered on eBay...lol).
My mother met my father during her nightclub years as he managed a room at the famous Playboy club. They partied with Heff & had stories after stories of those days, which enthralled & delighted me as a young girl. My mother knew the New York Dodgers who did the impossible, defeating the mighty Yankees in straight games during the 1963 World Series. She was in New York for the first two games....won tons of $$ betting they would win straight games,(that bookie was quite sad to have to pay out) procurred a team signed World Series ball and came home to gloat at all those that teased her for her Dodger loyalty. I could go on, but that might be best kept for a memoir.
Anyway, she was an antique collector & we really look forward to some of her things finding new homes to those eBayers, like us, who love to collect & get some history on where their items came from. There were a few days last year when we had to delay shipping a day or two due to her illness, and again, THANK YOU to all those eBayers who were understanding & sent kind words and wishes our way. You are all appreciated more than words can express.
You will notice that at the bottom of every auction is a picture of one of our four-legged babies. We love our pets and get many emails from eBayers commenting on how cute they are or asking questions, etc. So here is a basic bio on each starting with the three cats.
Chevy, A.K.A. Sybil, The Biker Chick, and the Mean One! Chevy was Michael's kitty and when I moved in with all of my animals she was pretty offended. She is the only cat we have that goes outside and if you do not let her out she is evil and will beat up all the other animals until you let her out. We often refer to her as Sybil because she appears to have split personality. When she is outside she is loving and quite protective. When I visit my friend a few doors down she will sit outside and yell until I come out and then escorts me home. She is about 8 years old and runs the whole neighborhood. She is the toughest five pound cat in the world or at least in Merrillville, Indiana.
Smiegel, A.K.A. Spike, Jabba The Puss, and occasionally Bruce. When I worked in Social Services he was a rescue from a client. He is about 7 years old now and when I got him over four years ago he was so thin and small I thought he was a kitten! Someone had smacked him in the mouth and he had a tooth cutting into his lip. He was taken to the vet where I was shocked to learn he had to be 2-3 years old. He had been eating table scraps before I got him, often lasagna, and he ate as though he was starving. He is now the goldfish of all cats as he will eat and eat. Smiegel does not want to ever starve and makes sure he is the first one to the food bowl. He is over 20 pounds and has extra toes. He is so darn cute and full of personality. His tooth healed crooked but that apparently does not interfere with him eating. His favorite animal to play with is our dog, Bea.
Rhubarb, A.K.A. Ruby, or Mama's Baby, the Baby, Baby Boy, and it just goes on. Ruby was the last client rescue I got a few months before I retired. He was about 4-6 months old when we got him. He is approx. 3 now. If I had known when I got him that he would follow me like he does his name might have been shadow. I can not do anything without him. He sleeps on me, sits on me, and even has his own chair at the kitchen table, a chair in my one office, and his bed on my desk in my other office. He is the most affectionate kitty I have ever had and that affection is pretty exclusive. He and my husband are both jealous of each other at times. People ask me how I get him to pose for so many pictures and the truth is he just does it. He is curious about everything and can't stand to be left out of anything. He loves Smiegel & Bea and tries to be friends with Chevy even though she hisses at him all the time. He is a pure bred Korat cat & even more beautiful in person.
Bea, A.K.A. Bittle Anne Bea, and Bittle. Bea is about 5 years old and her birthday is Valentines day. She is the best dog ever! She thinks she is a cat sometimes and even tries to walk on the edges of furniture like a kitty even though she is 69 pounds! She is fierce when she feels we are threatened, accepting of those we let in, and extremely loyal. She also follows me everywhere I go, sleeps with me at my feet, has her own bed in the family room, but can not have a chair at the table because she is too big. She is so good & tolerant with our new puppy Franky....we appreciate her even more since Franky arrived.
Speaking of Franky, A.K.A. Franki-Lynn, Frankenfurter, and Franky No-No. She is a full bred black lab a little over 6 months old. She arrived "free" as an unexpected Christmas gift in 2007. She is the most expensive "free" puppy we have ever had. She is a lunatic, mischief crazy little dog but we love her anyway. The cats hate her, especially Smeigel who is working in conjunction with Ruby to have her voted off the island!
So, we are nuts about our animals but equally nuts about keeping them clean, making sure they have regular vet care, and plenty of attention. People try to give us more pets and I simply reply; there is no more room at the Inn. We donate to animal charities a few times a year and strongly support having pets spayed or neutered.
