A beautiful matrix opal pendant I created using the 'Wire Wrap' technique
|
❥Hello!
Thank you for stopping by to check out my about "Me" page. I hope what you read will entertain you if not educate you. The kind of jewelry I make is called "Wire Wrap" it's a technique that has been around for ages. I use sterling silver & 14kt. gold-filled wire that I wrap stones with to make pendants, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and anklets.
It dates back thousands of years B.C. The British Museum has samples of jewelry from the Sumerian Dynasty found in the cemetery of Ur that contain spiraled wire components. This jewelry is dated at approximately 2000 B.C. There is such a vast history of this fine technique that can be learned❥
❦Here's some information on gold-filled jewelry:
Pure gold is 24Kt. and is so soft that is it impossible to utilize it in wire wrap jewelry. 14/20 wire or 1/20 Rolled gold wire is created by taking a sheet of 14 kt. Gold and bonding it through extreme heat and pressure to a core of semi-precious metal (brass). This is a very sophisticated process and only a few mills in the world do it. You should not mistake this process for GOLD PLATING. There is a very big difference. The end result is a 14kt. tube which is strong, durable, and resistant to tarnish because of its 14 kt. gold covering. There are collections of old gold-filled wire jewelry pieces with dates on them from the early 1900’s that are still in excellent shape! They used this metal much more in the 30’s and 40’s to make watch bands, cameo settings, well, it was used to make just about everything. Today there are very few jewelry items made with this metal commercially. Usually they are done in a very inferior gold plate to keep the costs down. The finished product thus has a surface layer of gold of the appropriate karat weight which is very thick compared to gold plate, gold electroplate or rolled gold plate. The quantity of gold must be at least 1/20th by weight of the total product. This is commonly marked as 14/20, 12/20 or 10/20, which mean receptively 1/20th by weight 14Kt. gold-filled, 12Kt. gold-filled, etc. * There is 100 times more gold in 14 kt. Gold filled (rolled gold) than in gold plate. * A 14/20 Gold Filled piece is usually considered a lifetime piece of jewelry. Beware of the difference! A 14Kt. Gold filled material carries over a 10% cost increase over 12Kt. material. Most wire wrappers use 12Kt. gold filled wire. Adornments To Treasure uses only the finest quality 14Kt. gold-filled wire. Using 14KTGF in our pieces allows us to bring you some spectacular gemstones and crystal jewelry to you at a more affordable price❦

❥I absolutely love making jewelry and working with precious and semi precious stones. But quite honestly my favorite is the opal, the opal stone is one of the most beautiful stones God has ever created. The gorgeous array of colors that flash when you move the stone around is amazing and captivating like the rainbow. I know there are opals that are limited to blues & greens but nevertheless they are still fascinating to behold. My most favorite opal stones come from Andamooka, Lightning Ridge, Coober Pedy, Mintabie, Lambina, and Whites Cliff.
Precious opal is extremely rare and fine examples are more expensive than diamond, especially black opal. More than 95% of the world's opal comes from remote central Australia, namely black opal from Lightning Ridge, and white, crystal and matrix from South Australia.
Australian opal is a far superior in quality to its distantly related cousins in Peru, Brazil, and Mexico and is the only country where you may find black opals. Australia supplies over 96% of the World's opal production (and 98% for gem quality opal).
One of the main reasons I love to work with different kinds of stones is because there is such a vast variety of them to work with. There was a time I actually wanted to be a "Rock Hound" just so I can find that stone that I can cut and polish and make it that outstanding gem I can sell for a trillion dollars. But lets get real, the reality is I love to create pieces of jewelry that others find unique and beautiful to wear. That's one of the greatest compliments I can ever receive is to have someone pay me to wear a piece of jewelry I created that they want to adorn themselves with~WOW!
I always welcome anyone that has a piece they want customized in a different color or stone.
I really enjoy working with people and treating them the way I want to be treated and that's with respect, dignity, & courtesy. I believe you should always treat others the way you would like to be treated. The world would be a much better place to live if we all applied that way of thinking. I give customer service the very best that I can in making sure that the customer is happy with their experience and with their purchase. I hope you have found this personal information both entertaining and informative.
Thank you again for taking the time to find out more about who your doing business with or considering.
Truly Take Care & Have a Great Day❥
