The more than 100 awards received by Wilson from around the world in science and letters include the National Medal of Science, two Pulitzer Prizes for Non-fiction and most recently,(along with War photographer, James Nachtwey, and President William J. With the human population expected to reach 9-10 billion by the end of the century and the planet in the middle of its sixth mass extinction this time due to human activity the next few years are critical in conserving Earth precious biodiversity. About The E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation
The Foundation is guided by the experience and wisdom of the naturalist and writer E. O. Wilson and is built upon the remarkable insights gained from his lifetime in science and education. Our mission is to implement unique education and economic strategies focused on the three most critical and related threats to humanity: global warming, poverty, and the loss of biodiversity.

Global Warming
Because of its potential to harm societies and ecosystems at every level, global warming is arguably the most serious environmental problem of the century. The E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation has designed unique programs that reach out to children and other citizen-scientists to create awareness through observation of the results of warming. Our education programs demonstrate the moral and economic issues raised by climate change and the many pragmatic choices available that can reduce our population’s impact on the environment.

Poverty
The Foundation uses its full array of programs to help children and communities in need to choose their actions wisely, with an eye towards a prosperous and sustainable future. Education using Confidence Based Learning and deployed using cell and satellite technology train people in sustainable practices. We also reward biodiversity protection using BioTrust, an unprecedented trade agreement that expands economic activity and raises the understanding of the value of the ecosystems.

Biodiversity
Biodiversity is essential. It is the complex interplay of living things that provides important medicines for healthcare, enzymes and materials for industry, and critical ecosystem services, including fresh air, waste recycling, flood control, and food producing substrates such as fertile soil, freshwater, and oceans. Communicating the value of this most important asset is done through programs like the Encyclopedia of Life, our Biodiversity Confidence Based Learning programs, the Microbial Bioblitz, and media productions like the documentary The Naturalist.
